ANGORAPHOBIA
Posted by AntiTrust on January 1, 2004, at 17:32:57

Hello, I am AntiTrust and was dx with depression and GAD 3 years ago, just two months ago however I started going to a pdoc and have a new dx of angoraphobia w/ panic w/ underlying depression.

I have been on a handful of different antidepressants. Effexor xr was the worst, I almost committed suicide on that crap!
I just started Lexapro 10mg, just started meaning, my 3rd day on the new med and things seems sorta kinda better...I also take kolonopin 1mg but the pdoc will NOT rx it! I need to go to a reg doc for that script, can you believe that? the pdoc dx me w/ angoraphobia and knows in detail of my panic/anxiety and says no to Klonopin.
Well anywho.......anyone else out there w/ this crap? I know I have had something wrong w/ me all my life but just thought it 'normal' seeing in our family it runs rampit..everyone called it 'extreme shyness' depression and all that comes w/ it.... for some reason was a 'tabboo' subject.
My first marriage ended because my spouse had nor wanted to understand. I am now remarried and happier than ever...just dealing w/ my mental health problems and my ex....WANNA SCREAM!

Hi AntiTrust,
It seems all the important stuff is usually taboo in families, at least it was in mine. I also know when 'extreme shyness' translates into 'can't deal with anyone or anything or get out of the house'...eg, agoraphobia. I haven't actually been diagnosed with agoraphobia, but I have diagnosed myself with many an agoraphobic moment. At least you have found yourself in a good marriage, and hopefully things will get better for you with more time on lexapro.

I just got a prescription for a beta blocker to deal with episodes of extreme panic, so at least my heart won't beat right out of my chest when I have to function. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck to you.
