one step one minute one breath and then....

>and then what?

>what next?

>keep breathing?
ugh

>keep moving ahead with this life thing?
expensive and a gamble at best

>keep posting?
not bloody likely

>open a bottle?
the answers are *not* inside

>swallow some pills?
I don't have any that are the mentally dulling take away the ache kind

>crawl into bed?
and lie there with my eyes shut but wide awake for hours just thinking every horrible thought--no thanks

>read the library of self help/relaxation/meditation/etc. books I have?
if I could concentrate enough to read and take in what I've read I wouldn't be typing to a damn board at this ungodly hour!

>argue with myself on a posting board?
hell, why not? it's all I got

It sounds to me like you need some fun:

Get an ice cream cone
Blow bubbles
Swing on swings (the big metal sets in the park with the long chains)
See if you can get a pebble to skip on the water
Sit on the floor and play solitaire
Skip around the house
Play Jacks
Find a sprinkler in the neighborhood and run through it
Draw a scribble on a piece of paper and make it into a picture (crayons are best - they smell good)
Go to the library and read picture books for an hour

These things are easier if you can find someone to do them with you, but all of them work if you are alone. I'm going away for the weekend, but next week if you want, you can choose one and you do it there and I'll do it here and then we can talk about it.

The hardest part is getting started - it gets easier from then on.

jyl,

that sounds like heaven to me today! If only I didn't have group and acu tonight then I absolutely would blow my meager grocery moola on some good olives and have myself a little martini party (like several 'little' ones!!) and listen to some music and see if anything doesn't pierce this hardened armour that pops up whenever life hits me with too much.

Well the thought will stay with me all day. Thanks for giving me such a huge smile. I called a friend when I got up and read this to him and he laughed and laughed and said screw the appts. and get toasted and music out. Sigh. Sounds lovely.

> It sounds to me like you need some fun:

Yep. I do need some fun just for me. The godkid fun is good but tiring and not replenishing of my needs.

> Get an ice cream cone

will do this weekend

> Blow bubbles

always! Have multiple bubble thingies for all the kids I take care of. I'm a bubbie (nickname from the smaller kids) wonder. I can even blow a square bubble! Nifty, eh?

> Swing on swings (the big metal sets in the park with the long chains)

Yep. Haven't done that in about two months. Have to work out employment schedule for school semester so see if I am going to be able to work with same kids who live near park with bitchin' swings and slides. Looks out over the ocean too. Life is rough for some I guess.

> See if you can get a pebble to skip on the water

just did that out in front of ma's house back in July while walking the neighbour's dog. Lots of flat stones and when the boats are in for the evening the water was like a pond and I got some good skips in. Reminded me of being little and skipping rocks at a lake with my dad.

> Sit on the floor and play solitaire

Howdya know I just got a bunch of cards? Freaky!

> Skip around the house

gets dog riled up when I move about the house quickly. 76 lbs. is a bit large to rile. ; )

> Play Jacks

been years. Have bouncy balls but no jacks. Will hit store this weekend for a set.

> Find a sprinkler in the neighborhood and run through it

did that for past couple of weeks with godkids in their back yard since it is so dang hot over where they live.

> Draw a scribble on a piece of paper and make it into a picture (crayons are best - they smell good)

I might possibly single handedly support Binney and Smith with all the Crayola products I own. I'm a bit of a crayon freak. It is a medium that works so well in many different ways. I'm currently using shavings of the crayons on some thick raggy oatmeal paper and melting the shavings onto the drawings (bunch o' mixed media)and seeing what turns up.

> Go to the library and read picture books for an hour

Maybe next week I'll hit up the ol library and do some needed research after reading some comforting pic. books.

> These things are easier if you can find someone to do them with you, but all of them work if you are alone. I'm going away for the weekend, but next week if you want, you can choose one and you do it there and I'll do it here and then we can talk about it.

Yeah, damn that motivation thing and depression. Ugh. Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions fallsfall. I appreciate it.

You are doing better than I am at the list!

The freaky part is that my swings and slide look out over the ocean, too. But if I'm not mistaken you are on the west coast and I'm on the east coast.

Enjoy

Okay, now what the hell is going on with the lack of metal jack sets?!!! Everywhere I've looked (drugstores, toystores, five and dime type stores) carries only plastic jacks. They're way cheesy too. So I'm still on the jack hunt....

Still need to do this one as well. I'm in that lazy post professional remodel and now in the personal (i.e. tons of work for no pay) part of spiffing up this house. A good break at the library, riding there on my bike no less, would do me a world of good.

Okay. Still motivating to register for a beast of a class this fall at local college. Still motivating to get back into pool. Need money to pay for year membership or at least a few months of lap swim.

Trying.

Sigh.

Just when in fall should I appear with my kites dear sailor? Hmmmmm?

I own several and my first bf was a kite pioneer out in SF. Wild. You go to kite fests? Are you quite the kite fella?

I have so many because I live so close to the beach and it is always a relaxing thing to go catch the afternoon breezes and let the kites soar or just get some good tricks in with the dual line ones.

Your partner in kites,

My favorite is Mint Chocolate Chip with Hot Fudge and Marshmallow instead of whipped cream.

Yes. You are right they are hard to find. I have found them, though - I sent some to my daughter at camp. Probably got them at a drug store or WalMart.

Wow. On your bike, too. My energy expenditures are to walk out to the kitchen to see if the chocolate fairy has brought anything since the last time I checked.

My daughter thinks you should read the picture books out loud to a kid - she says that is more rewarding.

Don't be. It is mostly nervous keep moving lest the darkness get me kind of energy.

Although I was very much in the moment on Saturday when I was having electrical work done. The electricians brought their nine year old son who has a crush on me. He's a polite, well mannered young fella. I spent the day with him keeping him out of his parents hair. He tagged along with me while running errands and then we took my dog down to the beach. He lives slightly inland so he doesn't get to the beach much. He was hysterical to watch playing in the water! I just stayed in the moment with a nine year old boy who hardly gets to see the ocean much less be in it; my dog swimming in the ocean with her tennis ball in her mouth; lots of people just walking back and forth and no one having 'dog off leash hissy fits'.

It was a good, tiring, but good day.

I dunno about that marshmallowly stuff there. Hmmmmm......sounds suspicious. I'm a fan of homemade whipcream but that's just being picky.

I hate that store. Sorry, I just do. I will find metal jacks somewhere in this crazy beach town.

I'm just thinking it would be good to go to the library on my bike. Or I could just swing by tomorrow after my therapy.

Your daughter is filled with wisdom. = )

Organic chemistry for premed majors. Fun. A nice way to ease back into school. Ugh.

Then keep making lists. Humidity bites. We don't do humidity out here in CA. Just don't do it. It melts us. Wah. Hope therapist isn't on vacation much longer. I'm in a situation of not wanting to deal with anything in therapy, individual or group, and resenting having to go. A sure sign there is something I need to work on.

take care

What a wonderful time! I hate the beach in-season (too many people, too much sun). I really should go in the fall, though. I live close to the beach. Watching kids is freeing - they remind me of what is possible.

Ugh! Chemistry was my downfall - 8AM class. I was staying up until 2 or 3 studying, and then literally fell asleep in class. I did pass (barely), and I learned that if you study so much that you can't function during class that you are losing ground.

You are very wise. Many people would say that if they don't want to do anything in therapy that they must be done.

The elusive metal jacks!

I found them.

At Toys R Us.

99 cents.

I bought some - let me know if you want them and we can figure out how to get them from me to you. If you don't want mine, that is OK. I can always find a use for a set of jacks.

Fallsfall,

Unreal. The generosity and kindness on this site amaze me. I will find a way to get my addy to you. I would LOVE to have a set of metal jacks. I have plenty of the bouncy balls (the kids next door seem to love tossing them into my yard and I have to grab em before my dog chews them up) so just am missing the jacks.

Thank you for being so thoughful.

I'm having a very rough go of things right now with a med switch and much illness due to it so I probably won't be prompt about getting back to you but I won't forget either.

Take care and thank you again.
