Wish me luck.......maybe a prayer too?

Posted by tina on February 11, 2003, at 11:11:18

I just swallowed my first Effexor XR 3 minutes ago.
I am a nausea/vomit phobic and have tonnes of anxiety about meds so I'm basically freaking out and it's only been 4 minutes now.
God, I hope it doesn't do horrible things to me. I'm terrified.
Rub a four-leafed clover for me, those of you in "green" places. My clovers are buried under 3 feet of snow and a minus 35 degree windchill.
thanks

Tina, you don't know how many thoughts and how many prayers. I feel selfish saying this, which is why I hesitated, but I am glad you're back.
You know, effexor ended up not working for me, but it did quell the anxiety. I would never ever lie about something like that.
It was in the summer that I took it as well,
and summer is when my anxiety reaches a fever pitch.
Thinking of you and caring for real.

Ah Tina,

Good for you. I am also on Effexor XR. It has done wonders for me. I am wishing you well. I have the same problem with finding four-leaf clovers as you. All under a blizzard or two. However, I have a prayer for you. I am sure this will lead to good things for you. :)

Hey Tina, Effexor definitely worked for me untill I found something to control the other directions my mood decided to go in. You know with being Bi-Polar and everything how they say that you're NOT supposed to give Bi-Polars AD's, like Effexor, without having a Mood Stabilizer added on. Well, Effexor was one of the first meds that really calmed down my anxiety quite a bit. Just be a patient girl and let it settle into your system first. The beginning was kind of rough on me. But it slowed the world down into a sort of jogging speed for me when everything seemed to be moving faster than lightening.

So, here's wishing you all the luck in the world... it should definitely do something positive "if you let it"....

Tina:

I've been on Effexor for many years, with a few breaks in between to try other a.d.'s. I honestly don't find it to be a 'cure-all'..and my anxiety still needs a benzodiazepine. But, I am at high doses...and at low doses, over time, it was the *best* a.d. out of all I tried. (the only ones I haven't tried are they older MAOI's.)

Like any a.d...it is going to take your body awhile to adjust, but I found it attacked my depression more powerfully than any. If anxiety is still a problem, and it is both *acute* and *chronic* then you can add an atypical antipsychotic which I found worked well, or a benzodiazepine. You can augment with many different meds with Effexor, as I know a number of people who have gone a long time without a relapse with this. (And even just on Effexor.)

Best wishes.....
Jay

Effexor is the only AD that hasn't pooped out...
It's potent it's a good filter it warms the mind.
I find it good for anger and it stopped my drinking dead.
OOooo..don't re-direct --lay persons post : )

T,
I think this is a very good move for you. I will hope, pray, cross my fingers, and send you white light to eliminate the nausea.

Good, good, good luck,
xoxo
