Oh IsoM! I forgot to turn the auto response off my e-mail that you sent the messages to. I received them all and am going to call ma today for the answers to the ill kitty questions since she went through that will all three of hers (they were all over the age of 16 when they were diagnosed).
So today is a long drive for me up to pa's cemetary for a visit for the anniversary of his death. It might be tomorrow before I get back to you with kitty stats but know you and yer kitties are all in my prayers and heart.
No worries.......I *am* getting the e-mails to the address you are sending them to. I think part of the problem is my forgetting to turn off auto response AND I'm supposed to switch to dsl already and I think my ISP has dropped my service down a notch on the dial up to "encourage" me to move along and get my dsl going. Ya think?!

Oh you're so cruel, kid. My poor sick Medusa isn't supposed to get loves sent to her by Alii? Are we only supposed to be supportive of people & not sick kitties? ^_* I'm sure when I'm using the bathroom, she reads my email & posts on PB.
You know I'm joking. First time I've been able to make a joke in ages. Stressed out plus other things happening too, but I'm determined to do my best. My sweet Medusa sends her hisses & growls your way. She'd send lovies but right now with all the man-handling she's been getting, all she wants to do is hiss & growl.
I feel like I'm being a monster - the way I'm treating her. Last night after I pilled her, she snorted & hissed at me but got on my lap & cuddled while still growling. She's awfully confused right now besides dealing with the nausea & sickness.

Thanks, Alii. I'm doing my best for her & will wait till you're back. I hope you find solace in visiting your dad's grave. There's often peace in cemetaries.
I've got to do something for her nausea before she's really dehydrated, so I gave her 1/4 tab of Gravol (kitty dose). Now I'm going to try to syringe some more water (only) down her throat. She must wonder why I'm being so mean to her. Still, while she's upset, she loves me lots & will cuddle.

Not been feeling well? I'm glad that you are able to joke again!!! I'm pretty fragile myself at the moment and the doc has given me an extra week off work but coming Monday is D-Day again. I hope I have a more successful comeback this time :).
You ARE being mean to your poor little kitty (is Medusa her name?) But your only being cruel to be kind.
Nothing tugs at my heart-strings so much as a suffering animal. I think that despite all the hissing she still knows deep in her little heart that you are helping her despite her confusion?
When my female dog had an ear infection she HATED me squirting the stuff down her ears that the vet gave me. When it was dosing time she literally used to run away and hide under the bed. She would tremble and make very sad little whining noises the whole time that I was fiddling with her ears.
But she still loves me :) :).

My Growwwly companions also also send their love...they used to get all concerned whenever our kitty was not well.

She may growl & hiss at me but she still cuddles & purrs afterwards, mind you, with a leery eye on my hands. I'm force-feeding her temporarily. I'll be giving her sub-cutaneous fluids & then won't need to do the force-feeding any more. Promise to write later - maybe end of week.

I EMPHASIZE ONLY EMAIL ME IF YOU ARE FEELING UP TO IT. (SEE ALL THE CAPS- DO YOU HEAR ME!!!!!!)If your baby has renal failure you have FAR more important things on your mind. Our beautiful baby also had renal failure so I know what you are going through.

...but I do read loud & clear. Thanks for the link. The first day I found out it was CRF, I read *everything* on it (I knew some about it but not the details). And yes, that even included when & if I lose her. I wanted to know how to gauge when she gets to the point when she's suffering too much as they can't tell us.
She absolutely HATES me force-feeding her but she shows such improvement afterwards, so I'll continue. After a few feedings yesterday plus the Gravol, she was so hungry, she practically snarfed her food down. Then she settled down with me & her purr was so loud, it rumbled!
I'm not sure how advanced her kidney failure is either but she's had potty breath for a few years now & I had no idea why. It's not something I've ever read about - all other references were to decayed teeth & hers are fine. I just assumed it was due to old age. I feel strongly that all pet owners should be warned that if they notice a "potty breath" smell to their pets to get their BUN levels checked. Of all the books, magazine articles, & web sites I've read on cats, I've never found this mentioned.
Bluedog, if you want to email me any tips about your cats renal failure, I'd love to hear them. I'm sure there's bound to be something helpful that owners can share. Thanks.

I'm a dog person myself, but many years ago my mother's beloved little one had this problem. We gave her fluids under her skin, which she hated. She was miserable that one hour a day. But fortunately, she wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree and the other 23 hours she was as happy as a clam. She didn't remember the bad hour until it was time for her twice a day drips. She would dance around my mother's feet and sit on her lap and you'd never know anything was wrong except that she appeared bloated.
I have had other dogs who would have been miserable 24/7 over the same experience, and I would never have tried to extend their lives. One of my girls had her pancreas shrivel up for some reason (she was old). There was no reason she couldn't live a decent life with insulin injections but she just laid down and died. She didn't want to fight.
I always made my decision on a dog by dog basis.

Thanks, Dinah. I know you meant the best & didn't need to add the extra. You're kind hearted.
My Medusa is a very feisty girl - all snorts, snarls, & hissing AND I know she wouldn't forget the indignity of injections. But afterwards, she calms down from man-handling her. I know she doesn't understand what's going on, but with me speaking softly to her & little kisses while I hold her & give her treatments, she knows I'm not purposely being cruel. She just doesn't understand what the reason is. I have high hopes that she'll become used to the routine in time. Choosing a small gauge needle makes a big difference too. And I'm sure that dietary changes will make the sub-Q only a few times a week.
