A Strange day out shopping!!

Posted by NikkiT2 on December 18, 2002, at 15:17:42

I detest shopping. My nearest shopping street is Oxford Street in London, the busiest shopping street in the UK. VERY VERY busy in the week before Christmas!

Today, I *made* myself go and finish the bits iof christmas shopping I hadn't been able to do on line, and had now left too late.

So, i go in the first shop, The Disney store (!!!) where they never have what i want!! I found what ineeded, paid, and left with out any hassle!
Next shop was a large music shop. Found the CD I wanted, went to pay, and was informed I got a free Christmas CD with it (Christmas with Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby - its great!!)!!!
very happy, I went to next shop, to buy a handbag for my sister in law. I found one I really liked, but it was £29 (my budget was £25). Sod it, I decided, I;ll pay the extra £4 just to ose the hassle. Spoke to lady in the queue, who had the same bag, and she complained she'd sene it half price nearby yesterday.. the assistant over heard, called the manager, who gave us 50% off!! Total bargain!
So, I then headed for tis teen age girls shop (Top Shop!) Fab place if you're shopping for a teenaged girl... lots of pressies.. I decided on make up.. picked 3 thing up, a little over budget, but were very nice... an assistnat came over to me, informed me the make up was on "3 for 2" offer, and I got a free make up bacg with them!!! Execellent thought I!! So, I queued up to pay, when a lady near me, grabbed a coat off the racks and ran... 2 burly security men charged over to catch her, one ran straight into me, sending me onto my bum... Wasn't upset though, just a little embarrased then I got to front of queue, went to pay, and the manager cam eover and gave me £5 off for my troubles!!! *lmao*

I really was the most bizarre day - in a good way!!! And our gorgeous new sofa has just arrived!!!

It's great to really let yourself appreciate those incidents and days that things go even better than we could imagine.

When good things happen (arbitrarily) I always try to acknowledge them out loud. Sometimes, for example, I'll go back to my car and realize that my meter ran out and yeah, no ticket! That way when the crummy things do happen, it seems less like I get into one of those "everything goes wrong for me" moods. I'm able to balance a little better.

Shelli (sounding a bit like pollyanna)

Nikki,

It's settled then. You're doing my shopping next year. No ifs, ands, or buts -- you're doing it. Your experience is just SO UN-AMERICAN.

Enjoy your holiday!

Ted

Sounds like the perfect day to buy a lottery ticket. Do they have lotteries there? Or bet on the horses, or ... ?

Those of you who posted advice when i was sofa hunting will be pleased to know out new sofa is just wonderful!!! its long enoug forme to lie down on (our old one wasn't!), there no lumps of wood poking in my bum... its simply wonderful!!! And the material is sooo soft and yummy!!! It feels like a very fine nubuck ( a very fine suede)... and my friend who has just returned from 2 years travelling Asia and new Zealand (well, he's only home for 3 weeks before going off to travel round South and Central Amiercia) bought me some utterly gorgeous cushion covers he found in India... they look stunning on the sofa!!!

Feeling soo poistve today after yesterday!!! I *will* survive Cristmas... well, i would if I wasn't relying on an utterly shit service from Amazon!!!
