A song for Stacey Anne Rainey~~~~sar

Posted by Phil on May 3, 2002, at 18:29:25

I posted this months ago, I think this song says it best. Take out Vincent sustitute Stacey.
I'm trying to write something. This is better!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul...
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land.
Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how --
Perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.
Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how--
Perhaps they'll listen now.
For they could not love you
But still, your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do--
But I could've told you, Vincent:
This world was never meant
For one as beautiful as you.
Starry, Starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn, a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.
Now I think I know
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they're not listening still--
Perhaps they never will.
This has always been one of my most favorite songs of all time. Don McLean outdid himself on this one and a couple others.
Phil,
Thank you for that. Especially:
" With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met..."
WE were those strangers...
I think we should keep on posting, maybe: songs we know that remind us of her, when she flitted thru our minds at the hearing of some tune or other, "Starry Night" is a beautiful, moving start...
in grief and in love,
Wendy
Thank you, Phil, so much.... (nm)
It's from Don McLean's American Pie that came out, oh, 71-72. Other songs: The Day the Music Died-"drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry...another line..the three men I admire most the father, son, and holy ghost. They took the last train to the coast, the day the music died. Think it's about Richie V, Big Bopper, etc.
It was a highly acclaimed album,it is great.
I think he may be more known on the country circuit now but may be wrong. Maybe he's in Branson. 'Vincent' is worth the price of the CD by itself but all songs were intelligent and good.
Natalie Merchant
Song about River Phoenix. I changed some lyrics, somehow think Natalie Merchant could understand. I think this says it all.
Stacey Anne Rainey
197_-2002
Rest in Peace
We will not forget
Psycho-Babble
and Dr. Bob
Young and strong Austin one
in the early morning light
this star fell down
on Burnet Boulevard
young and strong beautiful one
we embraced so close
is gone
was torn away
let the people of Babble mourn
include her in their prayers
let her image linger on
repeat it everywhere
with candles, with flowers
she was one of ours
one of ours
why don't you let her be?
she's gone
we know
give her mother and his father peace
your vulture's candor
your casual slander
you murder her memory
she's gone
we know
it's nothing but a tragedy
lay to rest your soul and body
lay beside your name
lay to rest your rage
your hunger and amazing grace
with candles, with flowers
you were one of ours
one of ours
I saw others expose your life
I heard rumors explode with lies
I saw people in tears
cry and crowd around the sight
of where you had collapsed that day
where your last breath and word
had been sighed
where your heart gave in
where you had died
I saw how they were lost in grieving
all half believing you were gone
the loss and pain of it
crime and shame of it
you were gone
it was such a nightmare raving,
"how could we save her
from herself?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Natalie Merchant understands the beast very well.
I May Know The Word
I may know the word
but not say it
I may know the truth
but not face it
I may hear a sound
a whisper sacred and profound
but turn my head
indifferent
I may know the word
but not say it
I may love the fruit
but not taste it
I may know the way
to comfort and to soothe
a worried face
but fold my hands
indifferent
If I'm on my knees
I'm begging now
if I'm on my knees
groping in the dark
I'd be paying for deliverance
from the night into day
but it's all grey here
it's all grey to me
I may know the word
but not say it
this may be the time
but I might waste it
this may be the hour
something move me
someone prove me wrong
before the night comes
with indifference
if I'm on my knees
I'm begging now
if I'm on my knees
groping in the dark
I'd be praying for deliverance
from the night into the day
but it's all grey here
but it's all grey to me
I recognize the walls inside me
I recognize them all
I've paced between them
chasing demons down
until they fall
in fitful sleep
enough to keep their strength
enough to crawl
into my head
with tangled threads
they riddle me to solve
again and again and again
