Some of the quotations I love...

Posted by IsoM on March 19, 2002, at 20:00:51

If you dislike cats, read no further.

I'm a big sop for kitties. The first quotation, while not my favourite, is my philsophy. I'm not asking anyone to guess who said these, just to enjoy them if you do like cats.

There are two means of refuge from the misery of life - music and cats.
Albert Schweitzer

A cat isn't fussy - just so long as you remember he likes his milk in the shallow, rose-patterned saucer and his fish on the blue plate. From which he will take it, and eat it off the floor.
Arthur Bridges

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
Robert A. Heinlein

Purring would seem to be, in her case, an automatic safety-
valve device for dealing with happiness overflow.
Monica Edwards (English writer)

To bathe a cat takes brute force, perseverance, courage of conviction and a cat. The last ingredient is usually hardest to come by.
Stephen Baker

Unlike us, cats never outgrow their delight in cat capacities, nor do they settle finally for limitations. Cats, I think, live out their lives fulfilling their expectations. Irving Townsend

A man has to work so hard so that something of his personality stays alive. A tomcat has it so easy, he has only to spray and his presence is there for years on rainy days.
Albert Einstein

Most of us rather like our cats to have a streak of wickedness. I should not feel quite easy in the company of any cat that walked about the house with a saintly expression…
Beverly Nichols

Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.
Missy Dizick

I don't mean to be cruel but i'm not a huge cat lover and my favorite cat quotation was one i saw on a bumper sticker that was being sold in a general store I stopped at in Maine: "So many cats; so few recipes." Pretty wicked.

That's okay by me! I do have a wicked sense of humour. I really do LOVE cats, but they have to be very intelligent cats - counts out Persians right away.

One of the 'bad' cat jokes I like (& when I tell it, so many people are horrified) is:

Question: How do you make a cat bark?
Answer: Pour kerosene on it & toss a lighted match - WOOF!!

(I wonder if I'll get any hate mail now?? I really, really do love kitties but I'm a little warped.)

Hi Iso,

You really do like your cats don't you?! There's a poem by Wendy Cope that I think is absolutely great but I'm not entirely sure what you'll think of it!

An Unusual Cat Poem:
My cat is dead
But I have decided not to make a big tragedy out of it.

I had to sit and look at it for about half an hour when I first read it, trying to decide what to make of it! Hope you're not offended or anything but I think it's quite amusing! How're you doing generally?

Emma.

It made me smirk - not at all offended. It's funny to me, I think, because I could never actually feel or do anything like that to my sweet kitties.

I do have unusual cats though. Two are absolute fiends about eating raw, crunchy green beans. They do tricks, sit up & beg, chase their tails, one plays peek-a-boo, & a list of very uncat-like things. They're my cheerful companions around the house & cover me with love (& cat hair - pphhtttt!!)

IsoM, other cat people, any opinions appreciated

OK ladies, do i not understand the poem or something? did the owner kill the cat herself or what?!!
Also IsoM, I could use your opinion about my baby Angelbait. She nags and whines and complains inconsolably, constantly, sitting and staring at me like some neglected Dickensian ragamuffin and I love her so much, she's not like any cat I've ever seen, so playful and smart, she gives me professional quality back massages too, but her neurotic distress drives me up the wall, and i wonder if she's in physical pain or just emotionally disturbed? She's been this way since day 1 and she's 2.5 years old.

thanks,

p.s. she's not loney, she has a companion, 4 year old Kamikaze who was here first and tried to obliterate Angel when she was a kitty but
they're like family now.

If her physical comfort is looked after & she's not ill or in pain (which sounds like she isn't), she's a attention-needy cat.

I do have one like her. She's my little sweet girl. I watched an animal documentary one time (I can never fill my need/desire for as much on animals as I can get). One part had something about a mother ocelot & her one remaining half-grown kitten. The kitten couldn't possibly be more lovey with her Mom, twining & rubbing her body all over Mom as she laid there. You could hear the kitten purring loudly too. She was literaly crawling & rubbing all over Mom & I thought "that's just what my Morgana is like."

She'll come running up to me, stare intently at me, meow loudy & insistently once & then sit staring, lashing her tail impatiently. It took me a while to figure out, but she wants me to pick her up. Then she proceeds to rub her face & body all over. She gets so happy & intense that she can't hold still. She's not a cat to sit in my lap, she has to be moving, dancing all over. But then she suits me.

I found I needed to smother her with lots of physical attention & affection before she'd calm down. Now instead of demanding my love all the time, she'll pick a number of times a day - get smothered, & then is happy for a few hours. She is just a very intense little cat. When she loves you, she throws her whole soul & heart into it. She's very feisty & spunky - she's got enough personality to fit a tiger.

I bet anything that's what your cat is like. Cats can be social with each other - more so if they're litter mates, but cats, if raised around people, will bond stronger with a human than another cat generally. Your Angelbait's making up for all the love your mother didn't give you.

As for the silly poem - no, the woman didn't kill her cat. It's a spoof or sarcasm over the grief that's normally felt when a pet dies.

I agree with IsoM- dont worry about her!

Cats vary such a lot in personality, and Angelbait sounds like an attention seeker who loves getting oodles of affection from you and just keeps asking for more! And is a bit of a nervous type, not due to anything you are or are not doing.

I had one like a bit like that- he used to go for walks down the street, but only if I went with him!
