Have you ever noticed...

Posted by Krazy Kat on January 11, 2002, at 12:31:51

that the more you do, the more there Is to do? You feel better for a day and get all this Stuff done, and then the next day there is just more. Yet, if you hide in the closet for a week, the world revolves without you.

I believe more and more in the philosphy of non-action.

Amen to that. It is my guiding philosophy. If you do nothing, most matters resolve themselves. :)

And Kat, you are sounding very chipper today. It's good to hear.

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow? ;-)

Thanks Dinah. I was feeling sick (as in flu), but it's getting better and I do feel better today than I have for awhile. Am trying a healthier diet approach (ha, ha) and sans drinking. Body (if not mind)definitely feels better for it.

I know I do something awful. Part of it is the adrenaline rush I need to really accomplish something. If I try & plan things to do what I need to ahead of time, I tend to muddle about. But when it's getting late & something needs to be done or else! I get a real spurt & it all fits together easily (well, generally). I can think more level-headed then.

What do you tell your children about doing homework, studying for tests? ;) I know exactly what you mean.

My oldest son has Asperger & it was never a matter of telling him to do homework. He's far more organised & ahead of the game than I ever was. My next two, I often helped with homework. Not because they weren't capable of doing it but to sort of inspire them or stimulate them.

Those two are very much like me - they need fresh ideas & stimulation. They rarely used my ideas which was perfectly fine, theirs often was better, but it gave them the boost they needed to do it. (not to say that it wasn't ususally done at the last minute either.)

My baby's almost 20 now so school's far behind. We all loved learning with a *passion* - but had trouble with accepting the way school tries to teach people - all in the same way.

Sure, Jane, sure. If you're a true procastinator, you'll completely forget about coming back to answer tomorrow. :)

I promise friends plants or seeds or books & then when I see them later have to ask if I was supposed to pass anything on to them? Great intentions but the wind blew my thoughts & ideas away.

I'm still thinking about it, ok?

I think if you forget completely it's called time management, not procrastination.

Garfield's motto is delicious ( I love his 'nap attacks'- including face down into pizza- too!)

*Some* things go away but a lot dont. I've finally got round to getting a builder to give me an estimate today for some things I have to get done, some of which have been needing done for literally years. I'm nearly always feeling guilty re something crucial I'm putting off- its a real drain.

I think the flyladies idea of 15 mins decluttering daily (or any other activity) is great, maybe along with prioritising and only doing what has to be done.

I heard of a local council, totally swamped in work, where they never answered letters unless someone rang up later. Quite a crafty, if not entirely ethical, approach!

The work I do has involved contact with students and others doing projects. Leaving it to the last possible minute seems to be (nearly) universal! I think the craftiest bunch are journalists- the ones I have worked with it make it a virtue that they are doing it late ('my deadline is 30 minutes!') which is fair enough in breaking news, but rather harder to stomach when they are doing a background feature they have had 4 months to prepare!

Just also to say nice that the Board is there, today. I'm a bit upset re a work project going wrong. Its no big deal and I'll be fine in a few hours, but its really nice to be able to 'chat' with some sympathetic mates about something else!
