Holidays

Posted by kiddo on December 24, 2001, at 23:10:13

Does anyone else besides me loathe holidays and having to 'celebrate'when you just want to stay in bed and hide under the covers?

Seems everyone is doing their own thing and I'm just here....I hate feeling this way, you'd think that something would have changed by now.

Happy Holidays to you too kiddo! ;-)

Yea I feel your pain.
Oh well. I mean ho ho ho!
(GREEN GIANT!!!!)

I think a lot of people feel this way.
I think that the holidays used to be about something and now its become over stressed and coommercialized. Lets get back to basics people!!!

Hi Kiddo,

Maybe it looks like other people are having such a wonderful time, but we know that a substantial percentage of them are just faking it. All those stats re stress and it being one of the year's times of greatest depression and so on.

Hang tight, dear -- it'll be behind us before long!

i decided when i get my own place i'm not going to celebrate xmas- its too negative for me, instead i'm going to quietly celibrate solstice, since that actually means something to me.

I am right there with you. Everyone is mostly "faking" it, as someone else said. They are all sweating over how they are going to pay for all the useless crap they buy just to impress others. There are so many poor families, people without, and they are made to feel bad by the damn yuppies who think they are something else.
Screw materialism....try to find some kind of happiness in your heart, and if you can't, or don't feel like it, that is o.k.too. It is not your fault.

Peace...
Jay

I am right in tune with you as well Kiddo. I hate the holidays because it is hard enough to put on the "game face" to look normal in day to day life let alone to appear happy and joyful during this over rated pile of crap that they have turned this time of the year into. Why can't we cut throught the commercialized bullshit act that has clouded the holidays and get back to celebrating the birth of crist and spending some quality time with family and friends. Why does it have to be a big game of who got the biggest and most expensive toys? Anyhow it is sad to say that this will probably never happen since it has gotten way too far out of hand and it would mean an economical disaster (in the eyes of the retailers) in order for it to happen. So the suicide rates will continue to go up and the stress levels will increase and the only ones who will enjoy the holidays are the little ones too stupid to know better. Anyhow I will step down off my soap box now and yeild the floor to others.

L8R,
The Sourceror

Katie, I'm with you. I do have my own place but the local "sects" which celebrate the solstice near me are a little too into witchism, wichism, etc. I would just like something really simple and when I return home I will continue to search for it.

Happy Winter Solstice

i actually dont practice wicca, i just like solstice because its a goal for me, its harder to keep my head above the water as the days get shorter, when i get to solstice, i know things are gonna start getting better. its also a very quiet and serene holiday to me because very few people celebrate it.

Kiddo

As others have said, you're not the only one who wants to stay under the duvet at Christmas.

I just wanted to say I am delighted its behind us now and looking forward to my first night at home- and probably all tomorrow morning under that duvet, with no-one even knowing I've not got up!!!

I dont know how much any of you 'celebrate' New Year- if so, I know that's still to come. I dont go in for it- just seems like pressure re reminding me of how time is passing. And gave up New Year resolutions years ago- just more pressure. So this time is now *my* holiday, having done the family stuff!
Hope you got thru it ok.
