Posted by kellyR. on May 16, 2001, at 18:18:23

My Insurance co. doesn't want to pay my hospital stay because it for mental health. so they stuck me w/ a $25,000 bill, is there anything i could do to make them pay this bill?

Depends. Does your insurance specifically exclude mental health services? Was the hospital stay "pre-certified" or "pre-approved" by your insurance company?

I've been researching individual plans (as opposed to group plans) and found that a few exclude MH services. I was under the impression that this was no longer allowed, but I guess it is.

The insurance companies are working there butts off to deny service. Even the federal bc/bs which is supposed to have equal benefits are playing word games. My visits to the pdoc for medchecks and new scripts are being payed like I was going thru chemotherapy or was getting viagra.
One potential option is to inform that insurer that you are going to visit the media with copies of your claims. They hate tv and news reporters.
It's worked for me.
