t and I talked about quitting my job

Posted by llurpsienoodle on March 7, 2008, at 19:19:47

I have been very stressed and distressed about my job for some time. T finally coached me into quitting. My supervisor was very taken aback, but I was able to convince supervisor that it was the right decision. Whew! And supervisor will still be willing to write me recommendations. and socialize with me.

whew. I (almost) feel better. If I had another job it would be nice...

In other news we discussed the fact that llittle llurpsie continues to believe that what happened is her fault. sigh.

Li so you will have human contact with supervisor so not totally alone? Li you were a child it's not your fault like I think I killed my Mother cause she said carrying me up two flights of stairs to an apartment made her sick. Now I believe I did do you? Love Phillipa

Llurpsie, I do think this was the best possible move for you and leaves you open for better opportunities. AND you got a new social contact out of the job, which is a great reward in itself. I hope that you're able to see that you've gained a lot overall with the experience, especially in learning how to set your own boundaries at work - this is something that takes some of us decades to learn! Brava to you.

llurpy, would it be too triggering to go to a park and watch kids playing and look at ones that remind you of ages you were when there was trauma situations? Look at those kids.
A percentage of them DO/will have trauma....will it be their fault??? Can you look at those kids and think its their fault?
I spend a fair amt of time in an elementary school. I sometimes just look at the kids. Some times I will meet their eyes and we will share a big smile, it is so sweet. When I work with them, there is such a range of personalities, but they are all wanting to be cared for.
I guess I have an advantage? I dunno.
To be honest i have put all my own 'stuff' back away for now.
Just don't want to look at it right now. I need to keep going in day to day stuff.
Never mind i am accomplishing next to NOTHING these days.
Arrghh.
I shut up now.
I say stupid stuff as usu.
Take care.

Muffled I don't think you do and I think when you have kids to think of them and volunteer with them the best way of healing. I did the same when my own kids were in school. But you're ahead of me as you recognize and have worked a lot on the issues. I didn't so it biting me now. And Li you will get a job when the time is right and it's the right one. Love Phillipa

I feel SO much better about putting in my (3) week's notice. Things seem so much more hopeful. I don't wake up with the feeling of dread.

I applied for 5 jobs, and I hope I get an interview. Two of them are really well-suited to me, 2 are "okay" and the last one is a back-up plan.

I've also been accepted to start a business with someone, but it won't have cash flow for sometime, and I need money at this point, not my own business.

well, that's what's going on with me.

I'm so glad you quit, llurpsie.

Work takes up so much of our days that a job that makes us unhappy generally makes us very very unhappy. I'm glad you took care of yourself and left.

At least my job, however much I hate it and feel like it's bad for my health, has some very nice qualities as well.

I'm so worried about getting another job. Money is important like never before in our household. I haven't gotten any interviews yet. Everyday I check job postings and am getting freaked out that I'm not qualified or that nobody wants me.

I spoke with my supervisor and she encouraged me to shuffle my hours around and ask for a pay raise. I know that this job has the kind of flexible hours that allow me to do my post-doc position (which doesn't pay jack).

I'm SO torn. I need to talk to T about this (and I'm not just saying that because this is the /psycho/board. I genuinely need to talk to T. He's got a lot of experience in career counselling, believe it or not.

I'm worried that if I apply for a raise I will get more STUCK (psychologically speaking) than ever.

In the meanwhile, my job this past week was very nice and low stress. Maybe I even got some good work done, who knows?

Ask for a raise and shuffled hours ONLY if they can assure your safety--mental, physical, emotional. And talk to T. You don't need a job that will do you more harm than good.

I know it is hard but for me, knowing that good things will come with time, helps.
You should do what you're comfortable with at work. I hope all goes well for you!!
