Selegiline with Bupropion ( Wellbutrin ) ??

Posted by Lunette on March 2, 2012, at 17:33:21

this week I started a micro-dose of selegiline 1.25mg and I have been taking Wellbutrin for over a year which has begun to poop out on me. I take 100mg SR.

I am wondering if anyone else has taken this combination and if so what is your experience.

I am concerned as I see it is contraindicated.

I have reduced my Wellbutrin dosage from 300XL to 200SR and now am on 100SR.

I am confused. I have read a few good reports and then several other reports that say it is dangerous. Is the low dose selegiline boosting the wellbutrin?

How do they interact and should I now stop taking the wellbutrin altogether??

and if I do stop, can I stop cold turkey now that I am on the lowest dose or do I take it every other day or once a week? What is best?

I do not want to increase my dosage of selegiline until I am sure it is safe with wellbutrin.

If selegiline works, then perhaps I do not need wellbutrin anymore anyway.

anyone out there on this combo? or your thoughts, advice?

oh and I also take gabapentin 1500mg which may help to balance everything.. not sure how they all interact

my PDoc did not seemed concerned
he was more concerned about Nortripyline and Dexedrine which I have come off completely a couple of months ago.

thank you!

Welbutrin was way too activating, and I ended up with symptoms of an 80-year-old prostate, and aggression. Selegiline was much better, but you have to dial the dose down after the ramp up to mao-b inhibition.

As an alternative to gabapentin, which I felt was like meditation in a pill (had space to respond rather than react to my most stress-inducing triggers), I moved to tianeptine because of the other effects of gabapentin-- mainly terrible memory/searching for synonyms for words at the tip of my tongue, and clumsiness/inability to learn martial arts forms.

Both selegiline and tianeptine are neuro-protective, and gotten from offshore pharmacies. After many trials of many drugs, this was the best combo.

Always titrate down slowly from whatever you are taking. I would err on safety's side, and not take the chance mixing bupropion and selegiline. Gabapentin limits the spikes causing seizure and similarly limits the spikes in reactive mood and the body's stress response.

Though considered an SSRE (serotonin re-uptake enhancer) as measured against the SSRI dominated world of AD's, tianeptine modulates some of the same gaba pathways that gabapentin does-- very anxiolytic, without the deadening in mood found with ssri's.

It's also great for asthmatics... Your question resonated so much with me that I signed up here after 9 years of by-standing. Good luck!

Selegiline + Bupropion not activating for me » DyseaseModel

thank you so much for your message

I am not sure why but I do not find Wellbutrin or Selegiline activating either alone or combined.

In fact, I feel quite sleepy on them.

This is frustrating. I am not sure what else I can try that will give me a little more energy.

Can you tell me a little more about tianeptine. Is this activating at all?

I have found that since starting Selegiline I need far less Gabapentin to sleep but I am sleepy all day. I have increased my dosage of Selegiline to 5mg and Wellbutrin to 200mg. I have even tried adding DLPA and Tyrosine neither of which are activating either.

I know I have unusual paradoxical reactions but surely there must some way to correct this so that I can build up dopamine?

I would so appreciate any advice and recommendations...

kind thanks
