BEST DOPAMINE AGONIST?

Posted by kenny7 on November 13, 2008, at 3:20:34

I take Nardil, and though I am not a Pharmacist I would feel comfortable with this combination. I am thinking Cabergoline. If you haven't figured it out already, this would be for the sexual dysfunction N has bestowed upon me. If you could give a little input on your recommendation such as this increases testosterone etc. it would be appreciated. I am leaning towards this because the extra Dopamine, IMHO, will be nice and non-Wellbutrin-like. THE best!...
Also, does anyone know how to prevent/slow down the downregulation of the DA receptors I get from Social Anxiety?

I wouldn't use an ergoline DA agonist, they can cause heart problems...what is the nature of your sexual disfunction? DA is only part of the puzzle.

You are completely right. (testerone is a byproduct of the one in which I mentioned though!) but I just want to get it right the first time...Or convince myself that they are not the basic type of baphrodisiacs (now those hurt!) I take Nardil and Libido is the major problem. 40% inability to ejaculate has been a smaller problem for me during my AD journey. Adderall got me got me going...My mind is set on dopamine (and that testosteron) considering that is a perfect mix and I work out too. (Damn kpin's slowing me down!) Yes, Dopamine is part of the puzzle alright. But dopamine flooding in the right direction would be key.

Um, yes Amantadine was for me like rocket fuel for the lower frontal area. Of which we are speaking. Good luck.

But beware of anxiety...

Yes Adderall is pro-sexual, at least when you first start taking it. But the dopamine agonists aren't in my experience. I've tried Requip, mirapex, carva/levodopa, and some others. They did nothing for my sex life or to counteract the sexual side effects of ADs.

Amantadine caused horrible, intractable constipation for me!

hey!

i have nearly no experience with dopamine agonists. i've been on wellbutrin for a year, along with lexapro 10 mg, but i ended up being quite aggressive, a little anxious and nervous and hostile because of the irritability.
the lexapro mellowed out a lot of the irritability, but unfortunately didn't remove it totally.

so i returned to selegiline 5mg in pill form along with 10mg lexapro. this worked too for about a year, but then i couldn't take it any more, because of anxiety and future worries (i think the amphetamine metabolites in the selegiline were the culprit). for a year it was okay, but just as the next big change in my life was imminent (the final exams at the university), the anxiety overwhelmed me again.

wellbutrin and selegiline both exacerbated anxiety in me, even when i took it along with lexapro (which is a common approach).

a few days ago, i've tried requip (ropinirole) and took 0.5mg (adjunctive to the lex). that was probably too much all at once, but i immediately began too feel very sleepy and dizzy.

that reminded me of when i took levodopa, which was also a singular attempt to raise dopamine levels.

it seems that real l-dopa or dopamine agonists make me tired or nauseous and the ones which act stimulating like selegiline oder wellbutrin seem to raise anxiety.

i would be really glad, respectively i'd be looking forward to hear from someone who has experienced a similar situation or who has taken the mentioned drugs too.

I'd really like to find the one drug for me which isn't causing too much anxiety or nervousness but gives me some motivation and energy (without pushing me too much in the amphetamine direction).

yours, deprime82

You can go to 20mg on lexapro and see if its helpful along with selegiline. In your case celexa may be better since it hits histamine a little harder.
Do you think the selegiline is worth the bother?
I respond to wellbutrin initially, but its effects disappear soon after and all it does is make me feel weird and anxious. If selegiline is similar and its effects dont vanish after a few months I might push my doc to give it a try.
You might also try and see if less frequent dosing drops the anxiety. MAO-B will take several days to recover once its neutralized. the only benefit I think you get from daily dosing is the amphetamine metabolites. dopamine and PEA should be higher for a few days as well.
