P-5-P for hypersensitivity/social anxiety symptoms

Posted by Lao Tzu on July 5, 2009, at 8:44:15

I have had good success using P5P for hypersensitivity when it relates to being around other people (social anxiety). I have had bouts of mild paranoia, which of course, is associated with a heightened anxiety level. P5P really does seem to help with these symptoms quite a bit, especially when taken with zinc picolinate and a little vitamin E (100-200IU). I need at least 50mg of P5P per day. Also, adding a little regular B6, say 25-50mg, is helpful.

Hello Lao Tzu,

I'm not sure that P5P helps my anxiety. It may even increase it. But I'll have to test it out more.

Why would Vitamin E help?

A single dose of P-5-P caused me to relapse into a suicidal depression within 2 hours of taking it. This occurred despite my taking effective medication. It took about 6 hours for this phenomenon to dissipate. Scary.

P5P seems to cause "depressive feelings" occasionally for me, even with an SSRI concomitantly. I heard it was good for social anxiety and Pyroluria (I was thinking I could have this for a while) but it really didn't do anything good for me. Disappointment.

It could have been a startup effect but I really didn't feel like getting mood problems for weeks, waiting until it went away. Usually I would "hang in there" if I felt there was a benefit, this time there was no benefit..
