What is salvia?

Posted by linkadge on March 9, 2007, at 13:54:19

I know nothing about this. Is it purely a recreational substance? It seems to be legal in Canada.

Can somebody explain?

Salvia means any plant from the sage family. Common or garden sage to hallicinogenic Salvia divinorum.

There are many plants in the genus Salvia. The one you are thinking about would be Salvia Divinorum I would think.

Common sage is known as Salvia officinalis. There are a lot of Salvia species >

My mother calls sage salvia. Perhaps sage is called something different in Canada/US?

Sage is actually in the salvia family... the hallucinogenic salvia is closely related to the sage we know.

Salvia Divinorum is a kappa opoid agonist or antagonist... cant remember which. Anyway, that's its mechanism of action and produces more profound dissociative / hallucogenic experiences than any other known chemical. The trips tend to not be "fun".

However, in lower doses, doses I have experience with, it imparts the most relaxing feeling in my legs. It's amazing and unlike anything else I've ever felt.

THere are a few reports of this sub-hallucogenic dose causing relaxation as i have described so I suppose its not unique.

I heard it pinned you to the wall or the chair or something.

Certainly something I've experienced enough as it is.

Wikipedia said that smoking it tended not to bring on too much or only subtle effects. Is this accurate?

From what I've read on www.erowid.org, the effects come on so quick that there isn't really that in between period. It's either nothing or a full blown trip.

However, my experience was interesting. No tripping. Just dreamy feelings and awesome relaxation. Kind of fun... glad I didnt trip cuz Ive read some effed up stories, ya know.

So on average do you know how often this substance is likely to induce bad trips. I mean, I'd avoid LSD on account of a high probability of a bad trip.

I've researched this drug thoroughly. Firstly erowid is a very good resource and it should address all your questions. For some people, the effects are minor but if it reaches it's full potential it can be very , very intense, that's why people recommend that beginners enlist the help of an experienced "sitter" (or a good friend) to guide you through the process and help calm and reassure you if things go arry while you're tripping. IT can be very intense, but unlike LSD, the peak effects may only last for 10-15 minutes, but they can be damn crazy during that time.

It is legal in the U.S. as well, but they're trying to change that because of one kid who committed suicide and happened to use it, of course don't let that factor into you not using it, since it was only one case and the correlation wasn't even establish like some drugs people push on citizens today (ssri's)

If you look into it more, there is 5x 10x 15x Obviously 5x is the weakest and 15x is the strongest. SO start out with 5x, think happy thoughts, maybe invite a good friend over and go from their : )

If it goes awry, would high dose vitamin C help ?

I never heard of that. The problem is, when you ingest the drug, you've basically made a decision that you cannot go back on. That is why you have to be extra cautious. Another thing I neglected to mention is that, it may not be the best thing for people with mood problems, just like any drug like weed etc.. some people with mood problems benefit from it, some makes problems worse etc. The only thing I would suggest is to take a low, low dose and get use to it so you know what you're getting yourself into. For some people it doesen't even do sh*t to, so you maybe dissapointed.. who knows. You just have to educate , educate , educate yourself.

I guess what I mean is that some drugs have *antidotes*. A bad LSD trip can be tamed with megadoses of vitamin C.

I tried salvia, really expecting nothing from it.
It was my first and quite possibly last experience with a hallucinogenic drug.

I\The trip lasted maybe 5 minutes, but it was the scariest thing I had ever experience. The view from where I sat became an American flag in the shape of a tornado, and I had to try not to get caught up in it.

There were other scary things too, but I can't remember it all.
At one point I just kept telling myself "this is just a trip and it isn't going to last....hang on".

So, that was my experience.....

Consumed very little, and the nice man at the head shop recommended that I start at the lowest strength they had, so I did. I really don't remember what the number was though.

I mean, I smoked less than what one would put in an average bong.
