Help--heart racing, panic from supplement?

Posted by janeB on August 9, 2006, at 12:21:07

I don't know what's happening. I had an oil blend this morning--optomega 3:1 EFA ration with antioxidants E-prime, Rosemary & Turmeric. I am going into a panic, raicing heart mode. Hasn't happened in a long while. could it be the supplement? Jane

Hey!

I couldn't say for sure about your supplements, but to me anyway, there doesn't seem to be anything that would make your heart race. I mean, there's no ephredea or anything remotely like that. Rosemary is meant to be stimulating, but I doubt it is stimulating in that sort of sense.

Perhaps its just a natural thing of your heart? I mean, sometimes my heart races for no reason, particulary when I'm really hung over, and these things are just normal.

Perhaps its a downward spiral - you notice your heart beat's a little fast, you worry, which causes the heart to beat faster, you notice the heart beat even more....you worry more....downwards we go. Remember every thought has a physiological reaction, so if you're worrying....

This happens to me - I got stung by a wasp the other day and I was worried that I might be allegeric to it. So you worry/panic, then because you're worried your neck goes red, you think its because you're fatally allergic to the wasp sting, you start to breathe more shallowly, you think you're having a allergic reaction......I tried to just calm myself as best I could. And drank a beer or two. Of course the allergy thing was my hypochrondriac speaking in me....

Just try to close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, go lie down for a moment, have a beer. Try and put it into perspective. These things help me anyway.

Thanks,
you are right
I was probably just panicing because of a long stressful phonecall.
Then another call
Then another
Enough my heart said.
I let everyone know I was getting a bad "headache" (a convenient euphemism), turned off the phones and I am beginning to settle a bit.
the reason I blamed the oil is because the same thing happened when I tried SAMe and when I tried an herb called Schizandra.
I am trying the oil for dry eyes and high cholesterol.
Thanks again for your response. Jane

I get the impression that even benign herbs can interact weirdly with some prescription drugs- maybe that could be the reason? And some people can get paradoxical effects, ie, kava and chamomile both make me jittery, so I avoid.
