I think I may have asked, but my memory is poor. Are there any supplements that can increase endorphin production. I think I remember reading about vitamin C, and/or DLPEA, are there any others ?

Rhodiola stimulates the production of beta endorphin. So I read.

Wasn't there that guy last summer who posted on these boards about how he ate 10 chilis a day or something and it relieved his depression?? I've forgotten his posting name. He seemed to think that this was due to endorphin release or something.......

I used to eat curries EVERY night - and hot ones too whilst I was at university. I was never depressed back then, and wonder these days if my chille consumption had something to do with that, or maybe it was just the artistic environment I was in coupled with the curry effect. Or it could have been the beer. I think it was a combination.

Having said that I've just had a few rough days and today cooked a hot fish curry - am noticeably 'up' this evening. However that could also be the tryptophan I took earlier.

I'll try the curry without the tryptophan tomorrow and see what happens.

Firebreather had this scale of heat that would have knocked the socks off me. But I've wondered about the many vaguely therapeutic spices in curries, nearly all of them perhaps. I would really like to learn to use herbs in cooking like the Chinese do. I made a dope cake containing Lycium Barbarum or maybe Chinensis. That's a start, I guess.

Curry is also a MAO inhibitor.

Straight D-phenylalanine. But all of the phenylalanine versions can work. Different effects with different folks.

Quick fix...eat the hottest pepper you can buy and let it burn burn burn. Serious endorphine production. No pain no gain. Seriously, I couldn't do it. Tried.

Longterm usage of 5htp (like about a month) boosts endorphins. I hate 5htp though.

Bueberry, why do you hate 5htp? Also, how come it boosts endorphins after a month? Does tryptophan do the same?
