Ketamine spray - 2 week follow up

Posted by Clearskies on May 8, 2019, at 12:51:13

I have been using the ketamine nasal spray every three days for the last two weeks. Initially this med had a profound lifting effect on my depression that has not been matched with subsequent doses. I have had some hefty depressive thoughts in the past two weeks, and have been journaling to record them.

The med was recommended to be administered at night. I feel the full effects of the spray within the first 12 or so hours, so I elected to take it in the morning so I can maximize the benefits. It does immediately calm my mind down and helps to reduce my amorphous anxiety, which never goes away.

So far I would say the effect on me is more subtle than I expected it to be. I am not experiencing any depersonalization. The main effect seems to be muscle fatigue, but this condition is improving with further use.

My depression is deeply entrenched. I cry every day - not at my situation in particular, but I have an overly emotional reaction to anything the least bit upsetting. I have found movies and the news can be deeply distressing. Consequently I keep myself isolated with little external stimuli to set me off. Im going to pursue further treatment for my anxiety which seems prevalent lately.

As far as the ingestion of the spray, its five sprays per dose, alternating between nostrils. Not long afterwards there is an unpleasant taste at the back of my throat/mouth where the med is trickling down. It helps to have a big glass of water nearby.

I read that some doctors are recommending taking nasal ketamine every day. They also said that some people have to wait a few weeks to get the full benefits. You should look into that.

Thanks for updating us!
I'm hoping to read better news from you, so keep it coming.

Are you experiencing a "trip" following using the spray?
That's what seems scary to me,,, that one might not come out of that trip experience completely.

Feel better!

Thank you very much for the update. It sounds like the results have been mixed for you so far??

I'm really glad it helps your anxiety though.

I wish the effect was more substantial for you, yet I am very glad you are not tripping or having dissociative states.

I hear you on this. I get extremely anxious watching the news and some movie previews. The news seems to be getting more and more dramatized, perhaps for ratings, and it makes me a nervous wreck. Have to leave the room sometimes...sensory overload?

Thank you for sharing all of this. If I am to access ketamine treatment at all it will be the same way. The infusions are way too expensive and the brand name nasal spray is not covered by medicare.

Thanks again,
Roslynn

Na, no more of a trip than the relief after ingesting a minimal dose of Xanax.
To tell the truth, I am desperate enough to bear a trip if the end result is improved functionality. But it hasnt been the case. I will stick with it.

Thank you, I will look into it. I have a history of responding to treatments slowly, like on the 8 week end of 6-8 weeks. Im just glad there was something else to try.

Hi. Clearskies,

Just wanted to throw in that I have TRD and constant anxiety as well. I've recently rediscovered Buspar as a really effective anxiolytic, you might want to give it a try. I required a good 6 weeks and a dose of 150mg tid for full effect.

HTH.

Clear Skies at Night,
Clear Skies at Night,
Oh, Oh
Oh, Oh, Oh, o-o-Oh-Oh-Oh

How are things going with the ketamine spray?
