Riluzole/Rilutek Experiences

Posted by rovers95 on April 26, 2019, at 16:05:18

Hi

Been away from this board for a while. Riluzole was great for anxiety and depression back in 2006..I remember it taking a while to kick in and I had to go to 150mg a day.

Anyway I'm back on it now at 200mg, but would be grateful for any shared experiences of how it works/worked for them.

Regards

Rover

i wish i could give you a good awnser... i searched links to experiences, i searched google for riluzole and the only thing close to reveiws of it were scientific studies, and ratings from people. It look like a unique medication, in it's ability to have an antidepressant effect, along with anxiety

Glutamate blocker and unique profile on it's actions. I wish i could find you experiences on it but google is pretty dry, have to login to medical websites for studies

Thanks, I was able to look back on my experiences here from Feb 2007 onwards; seems it pulled me out of a hole in about 6 weeks. I actually seem to be feeling better on it already (fingers crossed); such that it has had a notable impact on my anxiety and rumination - I'm on day 6 at 200mg.

Trying to keep a record of this for future reference.

Day 8 - still a noticeable reduction in anxiety and improved sleep. Still got some noise sensitivity and ringing in ears. Certainly less worries and a bit more motivation, although still feeling a bit flat.

From what I read/remember it takes time for the AD effects to materialise; I think the anti-anxiety effects appear more quickly. I'm taking it with 15mg memantine, which already had a good impact on my anxiety (less so mood).

I'm not sure this is helping my depression now/yet. Mood has been bad yesterday after a good start, sleep has worsened a bit too. In retrospect my anxiety is much lessened. Fingers crossed for some more progress this next week.p

So I think this is working for generalised anxiety and a bit for racing thoughts. Last night I had a panic attack but came round again, just stressing myself out about things going on in my life. Was able to go out drinking with friends on Sunday and wasn't depressed Monday so that's a positive I think.

Talking to myself a bit here, but want a record of progress on riluzole to look back on. Appreciate this board isn't as active now as it has been, but would appreciate input from phidippus, mogger, or anyone else who has experience with this drug.

Dare I say it, I think this is beginning to work. Was able to have a good time out on the beers yesterday and have stopped obsessing over my ex and feel like I'm moving forward with my life. Also I'm starting to look forward to the next day and doing my work. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Scott, not out of the woods yet by any stretch of the imagination. But I have some interest in work/life now which can only be a positive thing.

Improving I think, last night and today I have a greater sense of calm and also well-being. My sleep has improved a lot (better continuity, no dreams) which is my norm and I think an indicator that this is going to work for me in the long run. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure with this. Problem is I've started drinking alcohol on weekends and using phenibut again, which causes mood instability in me. So I don't really know what my baseline would be to compare too. Today I feel pretty good, but when I go into phenibut withdrawal I'll feel worse.

When my (bipolar) depression and anxiety is at its worst I get ringing in my ears. I'm still having some days of that. Aiming to stop drinking for a month or so and cut down on the phenibut; that way I can see what's happening to me.

In this study it took 5 weeks before they started seeing effects of riluzole for bipolar depression; so I think I will hang on in there and hope I can get back to my old self. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0006322304012259

I'm taking with memantine (15mg) as my anxiety/mania responds well to that.

I don't think this is having the effect I'd hoped. Had a horrible night's sleep. As I mentioned; using phenibut and drinking seems has destabilised me a bit so need to knock that on the head and get back on an even keel to see where I'm at.

Howdy Rover95,
How's it goin'?
I'm hoping that you have been doing so well that you just haven't felt the need to visit the Babble!

Please give us an update, if you would.

Much appreciated!
