Approved for medical cannabis

Posted by linkadge on March 13, 2018, at 10:08:44

Hi,

I had my appointment today with a doctor regarding medical cannabis for depression / anxiety / insomnia.

I will be trying a product (oil) and following up with the doctor in about 4 months. I am going to continue medications.

Any improvement in anxiety, insomnia, appetite and mood would be appreciated.

I'll keep you informed.

I look forward to reading about your experiences. Best of luck for some positive improvements!

Really positive that you can try a new treatment.

Will it be cannabidiol oil, a THC/CBD product or something else?

Hi Ed,

The doctor recomended / presecribed two products (one during the day and one at bedtime). I have to wait to hear back from the dispensary, but it sounded like both would have some THC (but would be CBD predominant).

The doctor said to intoduce it literlly one drop at a time for a few days.

It may take a week to fill the order, but I'll let people know how it goes.

Good luck, Link-- I agree with your doc. I could feel like two drops. (In water.) I'm curious how you do.

Maybe more THC at night perhaps? I was thinking you might get an increase in appetite from the THC.

There seems to be a divide in response to THC - some feel stimulation, others feel sedation.

Just have to wait and see..

I don't plan on it. We'll see if the oils work.

Today I ordered a two oil extracts. One extract is higher in CBD and the other higher in THC.

Normally, I would stray away from the THC, but it seems that (for some people) some THC is needed for therapeutic effect on mood / sleep.

I will start with one drop of each (separately) and see what happens.

Good luck.

I guess you already know that it is the THC that stimulates appetite. CBD suppresses it.

Hi SLS,

Yes, I did read this (it was a bit counterintuitive to me, however). The THC is the 'stimulant' and the CBD is the anxiolytic, yet (as you say) the THC stimulates appetite and the CBD supresses it.

I read too that the CBD can potentiate some actions of THC (perhaps through inhibition of cannabinoid breakdown) and supress others (i.e. psychotomimetic). CBD is a FAAH inhibitor (not sure how strong). THC (like anandamide) is broken down by FAAH.

I also wonder about the interaction between these oils and other substances like chocolate or oleamide. Cocoa contains small quantities of anandamide and other FAAH inhibiting substances. Oleamide activates CB1/2 receptors and may inhibit FAAH.

Over the years, I have found that cocoa powder is good for treating anhedonia (and, to some extent, anxiety). I don't know to what extent this is due to interaction with the cannabinoid system. It may have nothing to do with that.

The woman being tested is a no-nonsense British scientist. This is the shorter version.

I found CBD oil quite handleable, a bit wavey, no more than that. Useful for pain and sleep.

It is in the grey area here rather than the black, changes in the USA.

Canada is set to legalize dry product by next September. However, they don't plan on legalizing edibles or extracts (at least not right away).

This creates problems for some because landlords may have the ability to ban consumption in a rental property and legally one must consume the product in their own home only.

Unfortunately, many of the CBD studies I see have used very high doses (hundreds of mg per day). This would be very prohibitive for me (at least as a cannabis extract). Costs may come down in the future, it I see a benefit.

Anyhow, I should have an idea by the end of the week.
