foods that act like antidepressants

Posted by rjlockhart37 on October 1, 2016, at 1:07:18

i know well that turkey has alot of serotonin in it, but one thing i've noticed is when i eat carbohydrates, or junk food, i get a temporary euphoria, but it's not because of sugar, i don't know the fat, or carbs, but they provide enhanced mood.....i stopped over eating, but still when im hungry ... im hungrey and want food right then and there....but read somewhere that food increases dopamine, both the pleasaure of eating good food, the taste, and then the internal part where it creates more nuerotransmitters

there's some foods that really do have a good effect on mood, not sure exactly, or specicially, maybe ill do a research project on that.....

if a go without periods of food, my mood drops and i get sluggish, even thought i really don't need a meal, i get really mentally sluggish and slowed down if i don't eat during the day

I know it's not food but I've read that the smoke of frankincense acts like a antidepressant.

But it's a lot of different chemicals in foods that are interfering with our synapses and mao-systems.

Just look at all the tyramine from aged food!

Though it's mostly noradrenaline and mainly a releasing agent, but I figure that it affects other synapses to.

The problem is that we need the chemical to act like reuptake inhibitor to do any good, or else it will just be like eating ephedra or tryptamines who are releasing agents...

I don't know. It's an interesting thought though.

Is there even any reuptake inhibitors that exist naturally in anything?

When I was younger i often had these kind of thoughts and tried to search the internet for plants that act like benzodiazepines. Years I have had it in my mind, and just this year I find out that muscimol, the active chemical in a Amanita muscaria, is like the most potent gaba-a agonist that exist.

Sadly it is extremely hallucinogen, but anyway, kind of interesting.

I think that when the nmda-antagonists start to conquer the market and become the main choice of antidepressants, we will find a lot of foods that are antidepressant.

but even with raw - just raw carbohydrates, i think maybe the pleasure of eating, feeling content after you have a nice meal for the night, it releases some kind of serotonin in the brain that gives that feeling of small-bliss after a meal......and i think the process when eating, the pleasure is when dopamine is released, that's why people over eat because of that pleasure it gives

but yea it would be really intresting to find other types of foods that have psychoactive propereties, foods from other countries, like in the jungle or the amazon they have psychdellic plants that they eat during rituals, and opens their mind up.....there's also something called khat that is a psychostimulant, very similar to cocaine, and amphetamine, they drink it in tea, and it gives them a small cocaine like buzz, it's illegal here in the US, it's a dopamine reptake inhibitor like methyphedidate and cocaine

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khat

but just like comfort foods, i always noticed when i eat comfort food that feeling of bliss after im done, pleasure of having a meal.....

research project: food from other countries that are psychoactive lol

Yes, very common in Somalia and in the Somalian community here in Sweden too.
It is chewed (big amounts) for a long period of time, like 12 hours, and hold against the "inner side of the cheek" like a ball to absorbe in the mucous membrane.

The designer drugs today are synthetic chatinones often.

Bupoprion are a synthetic chatinone, as are methylphenidate in some ways (semi).

And many more medicines that I can't think of right now.

So they're all derivates from Khat in a sense. :-)
