Topiramate: Psychosis and irreversible side effect

Posted by Lamdage22 on February 10, 2015, at 9:43:08

I have seen a psychosis rate of topiramate of .8 percent..

My physique is taking damage and it is sh*tty for my mood!

Should i try this? Just as long as my zyprexa is so high??
1 in 100 is not many people.

Are there any long term irreversible side effects?

Probably best to try an approved weight loss treatment first, like orlistat (Xenical).

Then why do psychiatrists prescribe metformin and topiramate and not xenical?

Im on my way to become a fatty.

Maybe i should try Solian again (amisulprid) instead of zyprexa!
What else could i use to replace zyprexa?

I have failed: Abilify, Zeldox, Latuda, Risperdal,

You could potentially go up to 2000mg.

Psychiatrists probably aren't used to prescribing orlistat. It's normally prescribed by GPs/family docs.

It sucks when you look in the mirror and see more fat every day.

I'm having that experience at the moment. Mainly because I'm eating too much and not doing enough exercise!

In the US, Xenical is over-the-counter. My p-doc suggested it when I gained weight on ability. It has nasty side effects. Really nasty.

My doctor raised the Metformin to 2000 from 1500.

I asked if more would help more. He said yes.

I am reading about anti-diabetics. I wonder if i could take another one together with glucagon (to raise blood sugar again)

>I am reading about anti-diabetics.

Some anti-diabetics cause weight gain. Apart from metformin, liraglutide causes the most weight loss.

>I wonder if i could take another one together with glucagon (to raise blood sugar again)

Glucagon would not be used in that situation.

Anyway, metformin and liraglutide do not generally cause hypoglycaemia. Some anti-diabetics can cause hypoglycaemia, but they are also the ones which cause weight gain so you wouldn't be taking them anyway.

Would the combination of metformin and liraglutide cause hypoglycaemia?

Is liraglutide stronger in ist weightloss properties?

Can liraglutide be taken by myself via injection into stomach fat?

I was looking at Alpha-glucosidase Inhibitors like acarbose and voglibose. What about them for weight loss?

2000 mg works (metformin) much better than 1500.

I wonder if i could take 2500 for a few months.

How do you mean? You mean you have less appetite?

>I wonder if i could take 2500 for a few months.

Doses above 2g are normally only used in diabetics, but I suppose you could consider more in the future if necessary. You might not need more!

>Would the combination of metformin and liraglutide cause hypoglycaemia?

I doubt it. Like metformin, it normally only reduces blood glucose when it's abnormally high.

>Is liraglutide stronger in its weight loss properties?

Than metformin? Probably, yes. Liraglutide is being developed specifically as an aid to weight loss. The dose being studied for weight loss is higher than the usual anti-diabetic dose, but standard anti-diabetic doses do often produce some weight loss too.

>Can liraglutide be taken by myself via injection into stomach fat?

Yes, you inject it yourself using the pen injector. It's not difficult to use. Only the lower anti-diabetic doses are approved in Europe. It is approved in some parts of the world for weight loss, but not here. Still, the lower dose would probably be adequate for you, especially since you're on metformin. The brand name is Victoza. The higher strength approved for weight loss in the US is called Saxenda.

>I was looking at Alpha-glucosidase Inhibitors like acarbose and voglibose. What about them for weight loss?

They cause a lot of bloating and farting (flutelence)! Orlistat would be a more sensible choice. Orlistat can be tolerated well with a very low fat diet. It will always be difficult to tolerate if too much fat is consumed.

Yeah at least now i dont have to look at a bigger belly every day anymore.

Lets hope it will stick.

Zyprexa will probably not stay at 15mg so i think i have a good chance to get in shape again.

@ED: Liraglutide alternative?

Hey Ed,

liraglutide sounds well but it says on wikipedia that in can cause thyroid cancer and pancreatitis.

Is there a safer alternative. I know Metformin is very well tolerated. I need something equally safe.

Pls help.

There are related drugs, (the GLP-1) analogues, such as exenatide. I doubt they are safer than liraglutide.

I think you should give metformin chance to work at the higher dose. If it isn't adequate, consider orlistat.
