this has been talked about a lot. and many who have tried Marijuana have experienced the mood benefits. But these days the proof is being shown in Medical Studies. i even once had psychiatrist mention marijuana might be worth a try. i did end up tryin it once and didnt experience a benefit myself. But i too think for those with Treament Resistant Depression, its worth trying

Short term yes definitley, but long term chronic dosing can pose problems. Side effects of chronic dosing usually are irratability, some memory impairment/learning becomes harder, and some people say depressive outlook. These mainly occur after a month or so of smoking, when the user becomes accustomed to cannibas and therefore begins to feel less of it's effects. Also noteworthy is it is a potent anti androgen, and subsequently over long term use greatly reduces testosterone levels, which in makes can induce depression. Finally, it is an immunosuppressive agent, but not sure how much effect this may have on anything. I have ocd, but can personally attest to the benifits it gives on sleep, but other than that severely exacerbates ocd symptoms, so if anxiety is a thing you might want to tread lightly.

It's important to be aware of the many strains available and their effect. My use of a tincture led to my being able to taper rapidly from 12.5mg of Zolpidem CR, and I am able to reduce the amount of Klonopin I require, depending on the stressors and how I'm handling them. The more research that's being done - or reported - the greater the benefits are being found.

As more studies are released and dosing is fine tuned, I believe that tolerance can be managed and the maximum relief and even resolution to different conditions will be found.

Just my experience and opinion.

yeah, i think so as well. but im sure marijuana itself wont ever start being recommended in the mainstream for most conditions that it can benefit, especially mood problems. and the best that one can expect is for Drug Companies to replicate the benefocial effects of with a chemical and start selling it for $15 a pill.

I find long term use provides relief from depression.

Probably couldn't hurt unless you are unstable or potentially psychotic. Long term effects there is t loss, but not sure on how often you would have to smoke to effect that. Immune suppression is not of issue unless you have aids or some other immune disease. I can also say I know people who smoke everyday that used to have depression and are better now.

I think it's highly unpredictable. Some people get more anxious and depressed, other (possibly) less so.

I believe that is dependent upon the strain they are using, Sativa or Indica. Quite different in their effect and application.

Good point. I think part of the problem with cannabis, like any herb, is that the composition of the substance is very variable. The effects are therefore even more variable!

The State of Washington has a comprehensive website indicating the effects different strains are meant to have for conditions. It was a real help in getting straight to what would help me best. I kept notes on dosage, effect, and length of effectiveness. (The dispensary was pleased to have validation as well.)

I do think it's the way forward for some of my issues being resolved if not more easily relieved with less side effects.

Really, I had no idea. Do you have a link to this?

Yeah, I'd be interested in that link too. But for the time being, here's something similar for the Netherlands: http://www.bedrocan.nl/english/products.html It's from the website of the "purveyor" of the Dutch Health Ministry for medicinal cannabis. Their products have standardized compositions in terms of active ingredients, and they also underlie very strict regulation in terms of microbial quality.

But I think that, even where this kind of quality of product is not available, cannabis *can* have a role in treating a lot of illnesses, including psychiatric. It's certainly not a first-line or even second-line treatment, but even with all its shortcomings, the fact that there are really no other drugs with a comparable pharmacology means that when it helps, it may simply be the only thing that helps. And then it may well be rational to accept all those side-effects etc. (including potential legal "side-effects").

That is basically what I think about it, in brief...

The State website seems to be having some issues! However, the Seattle organization has a myriad of information provided on this link:

I've run tests with a particular strain. I've been fighting pretty severe depression for two weeks. Every morning I wake up it's right there. My anxiety has been through the roof.
I vaped a lot of this strain earlier and feel very little anxiety and the heaviest part of the depression is gone. Maybe just postponed but I paid particular attention on these tests. How do I feel right now and how do I feel afterwards. It worked immediately and has lasted for about two hours so far. I try to make it a point of having some around when I really need help. Before, I wanted to go to bed. That went away too and I'm writing this post instead of taking a three hour nap. Many strains help depression but if you're doing it every waking hour the depression can get worse. Use selectively. A two to four hour respite from severe depression is a gift.

I agree, Phil. it's not as if this is being dispensed and prescribed so optimum results are achieved - we're our own guinea pigs. I have only used it to address my anxiety and insomnia. Having a hard candy as a delivery system does make it easier to function out in the open; I'm very aware of the effect on my cognitive skills, and don't drive if I have ingested. Not fined tuned for me yet.
