Stimulants - ADHD - Question

Posted by OnlyGodCanJudgeMe on June 22, 2013, at 15:26:13

My brother told me since I have ADHD all stimulants will do is slow me down, not help with my energy that i lack. I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. Is he right with this assertion?

Maybe. Maybe not. Some people with CFS are very sensitive to stimulants. They'll feel wired on them, and then when the pills wear off, they'll crash and feel worse than they did before. Dr. Daniel Amen believes there are six types of ADD/ADHD. Some types can be helped by stimulants, and some types can be made much worse by stimulants. Here's a description of the six types:

Thank you for your response.

Are Stimulants and or Nuvigil/Provigil the only medications to tackle Chronic Fatigue?

Some immune suppressants are being tested for CFS, in the belief that, in some cases at least, it's an autoimmune disorder. Jacob Teitelbaum's writings on CFS are worth checking out.

amphetmaine and methyphenidate stimulants can cause a zombie effect on some people...it does slow the behavior down from being restless....it depends on the dose...higher doses are more like recreational uses....euphoria and mania energy....

nuvigil is not a psychostimulant....its more for fatique and shift fatigue....its like coffee, but without jitters....

another thing you can look into for fatigue is Vyvanse...its the same amphetamine in dexedrine but its release system is diffrent...i was on high doses of vyvies they made act crazy....and drained of energy and mood after it wore off...maybe for your case about 50mg-70mg would be fit......standard doses.

Is dexerdine better than adderall for energy/mood?

I think it is. I think that part of the molecule called dexedrine has the energizing part in it-- and when you add the other enantiomers --or optical isomers-- which are less potent, you get adderal.

I'm sure adderall includes all the enantiomers, and is less strong-- although it's from experience that I've concluded that dexedrine is stronger.

dexedrine is dextroamphetamine....its one isomer of amphetamine

adderall is ampetamine....its mixed dextroamph/levoamphet which the levo is more psychiacally stimulating....but also it will give more sweating and adrenal release....it depends on the person, but adderall is a vary popilar med right now in the US....Dexedrine is the same thing but it doesnt have the levoamphetamine isomer attached...dex is less stimulating psychically, its more mentally activating....
