Question about Geodon/ziprazidone

Posted by jennifer248805 on June 20, 2013, at 13:52:28

Has anyone had panic attacks associated with starting the drug? I've only been on it for 4 days and I've had panic attacks every day since starting it. The last panic attack I had was almost 10 years ago so I'm thinking it might be the Geo/Zip. Any thoughts?
Please and thanks
Jennifer

i say BE Careful and contact your pdoc.

i started at 80mg (i think, its been a while) and didnt seem to do anything so my pdoc had me double it. When i did, in a couple days, i became psychotic. having weird visual hallucinations, felt like i was being controlled. Massive dysphoric thoughts, feelings. Was being 'told' what to do...

i'm not saying that's what's happening with you, but please look out for you feeling worse instead of better.

and either way i feel strongly you should let your doc know.

Best wishes...
b2c.

Geodon is an unpredictable drug. It can produce a nice antidepressant effect or it can produce anxiety, insomnia, and "paradoxical" agitation. According to Stephen Stahl, these adverse effects are more apt to occur at low dosages.

If you are looking for a neuroleptic antipsychotic with antidepressant properties that does not promote weight-gain, Latuda (lurasidone) is worth exploring.

jen,
The drug that you are taking has the potential to induce a mind-altered state to compel you to kill yourself. There are cases where the suicidal thinking was preceded by panic, or the urge to do something. The longer you take the drug, the more chances there are for the suicidal ideation to control you.
