Posted by FrequentFryer on May 17, 2013, at 5:46:59

Hi All.
I was wondering if any of you would know know now I am off GABA related drugs would things like Valerian, L-theanine, l- Glutamine, KAVA, taurine or anything help replenish my diminished gaba. I have researched it a bit and know one seems to know. Maybe time and healthy diet is the only way.
Any advice much appreciated.

Regards.

Baclofen and Clonazapam.
I had to stop them both because my dosages were getting to high. Now I don't feel so good.

A poster on here gave advice about regenerating gaba receptors, Im sorry, I dont remember the name, but I wrote down some things from their post:
B vits-B6,niacinimide(not niacin),thiamine, avoid folic acid, low dose magnesium, low dose 5 htp(5-10mg),avoid caffeinated coffee, and sugar. Diet heavy on proteins, raw/slightly cooked veggies, some fruits(berries, granny smith apples),small amt dark choc daily.

I was on clonazepam for about ten years, and stopped it about 11 weeks ago. Still going through withdrawal symtoms, which I expect to continue for some time.

I would be surprised if there was any cure but time. I don't think withdrawals are caused by low GABA, so much as changes in receptors and gene expression that occur on benzos.

I think alcohol can give some short term relief, but it might slow down the healing process. Sometimes though all that matters is being able to enjoy your evenings once in a while, and avoid relapse.
