Augmenting Zyprexa with Saphris?

Posted by Bob12 on July 4, 2012, at 9:56:11

Hi,
I have been on Zyrprexa 17.5 mg for 11 years.

I still have anxiety, OCD, mild paranoia, sleepiness during the day, and occasional sleeping problems at night.

Does anyone recommend I try adding Saphris 5 mg, in addition to the Zyprexa 17.5 mg?

I am concerned about potential side effects from the Saphris.

thanks
Bob12

bob....hey how u doing....anyways saphris is new and I really can't give you much of review of its effects until I actually read and research on it for a long time. But I know Zyrexa vary well...its calming i take 20mg...it gives anxiety releif to some people similar to benzo's even thought its not one, and me too...

the only thing that I would have to just say this about mixing these is tartive dsykanisia and nueroleptic malgliant syndrome...these both are serious condition when a antipsychotic is used at a too high dose...

I was taking Geodon two 80mg at night with Zyrexa 10mg and it didnt have any serious effect that is documented. I felt pretty drugged out...and alot of my thoughts where calmed and blocked...its wierd to descibe a psychotic medication expierience because they have kinda wierd effects, but overall they calm people down who have high dopamine levels associated with Schizophrenia. Like the closest expierience I had with geodon and zyprexa was having much reduced thinking with some sedation. It's not like the xanax feeling that makes you feel better when your stressed out...its diffrent.

i don't think it would be harmful at all...if the doses where used in low-moderate doses...if both medication where together at their max doses then that may create a problem with TD.

ask your doctor and be eleberate why you think it may be beneficial.

I say if the zyprexa is working, stay on it. You could up the dose to 20mg. I've never taken saphris, but I'm currently augmenting 10mg zyprexa with perphenazine. Which seems to work well. I've had a lot of bad med trials, abilify, and geodon that made things worse for me. I would up the zyprexa to 20mg first then add some thing if it does not work.
