I have a mood-disorder thats hard to point out

Posted by Lamdage22 on March 27, 2012, at 15:34:33

Hello friends,

i have been staying away from hospitalizations for quite a while now and i am relapsing.

A brief history on me: I have grown up in a dysfunctional family and my parents divorced when i was 5 years old.
I made it through high school and could deal with it through denial.. This denial is now slipping away on an emotional level, i have met a girl with whom id like to have a gf-bf relationship in the future and the heartaches just hit me pretty heavily.. so heavy that i sometimes think i might die from it.

This heartache about what i missed out on life due to family relations seems to be accompanied by paranoid thoughts and actions. I am freaking out pretty quickly.

I always thought that i have only depression and to me it seems to be just a basic fear of life along with depression and psychotic features. Socially anxious and in a way submissive, but in another way quite narcissistic.

I have been to jail recently because on an intuitive memory i have been remembering molestation by my father. I have my butt to a a police officer and assured him that it got raped. They have put me into forensic and then straight into jail. Hospitalizations are quite frequent right now.
I have been on nardil for a lengthy time doing just fine with greatly relieved depression. Now im going paranoid again and was put on risperdal, 5mg, nardil 45mg, and 1mg ativan as needed. Now the past days i have been on 15mg zyprexa only.

I had this before and was diagnosed "bipolar", now the pdocs seem to tend to point out schizophrenia to me, but i dont believe that i imagine anything.. it has been said that my reality testing is poor. I dont believe though that i hear voices or see things that others cannot see. Well yes, i had that.

So now what? The past experience shows that after my diagnosis was shifted from depression to bipolar, i have decended into a deep, dark and very longlasting depression. I have gotten rid of the bipolar diagnosis. Now the "voices" aka doctors call me bipolar and schizpophrenic again.

I do not know what i have and the times are tough, though very beautiful and fullfilling at times.

Am i just going through a grievance process or am i decending into schizophrenia?

Some may remember me.. i was on this board before with the name "Hunk" and "Lamdage".

I am back with a big time problem, please help!

first...Yes i remember you. glad your back...well sort of. you know what i mean.

and my only question is are you seeing a therapist? i think this would help greatly. 1) to help you sort out your memories and deal with abuse issues and also to help you figure out dx. whenever there are psychological stressors involved it makes it hard to diagnose. (i know that first hand).
but they can certainly interfere or make worse your disorder, whatever it may be.

I think you should try lithium.

My current regimen is 1200 lithium 45Nardil and 20 Zyprexa.

It seems to be working well

What's hard to point out about your mood disorder?

Prevalent is depression but then sometimes i get into mixed episodes with paranoia bordering psychosis.

I guess it isnt hard to point out anymore.

Lithium works wonders right now. I will ask my pdoc to up the nardil to 60mg tomorrow.

Then id be on

Daytime:
60mg Nardil
800 Lithium

Bedtime
20mg Zyprexa
400 Lithium
75mg Benadryl

Lorazepam as needed.

if you're struggling with depression, consider a switch to Latuda. Its 5ht1a agonism is strong and might help fight your depressive swings. Zyprexa hits 5hta receptors primarily and can cause depression.

Interesting. Does Latuda help for sleep, too?
Could i combine latuda during daytime with zyprexa for sleep?

I really need strong sleep support. Any ideas on a good nighttime-knockout strategy?

Right now i take a lorazepam, 30zyprexa, 75benadryl and trazodone for sleep.

Latuda sounds interesting but then id need sth for sleep.

How activating or sedating is latuda?

Thanks for your help!

Latuda does not help with sleep. It is only partly activating.

Seroquel is still stronger for sleep than Zyprexa. I would recommend 200 mg of Seroquel plus valium or klonopin. Of course it would work just as well with benedryl and trazadone.

Want to come off the meds

Hey Guys,

im having a real rough time with zyprexa and lithium and i wanna come off that stuff.

I think its a matter of finding the right nardil dosage, wich might be as low as 30mg and then finding a good, non fattening sleep regimen.

Lets do a brainstorming on non carb craving inducing sleep meds. Out of the box thinking more than welcome.

If you are on too much of AP or lithium, come off of it first before you post.

That stuff is garbage, for me at least. Only because doctors dont want to believe how bright i am and how many coincidences i experience they want to put my brain on a straight jacket and make me fat.

I have candida albicans, pretty badly, and it is irresponsible what is going on right now with zyprexa and lithium. I will not take another pill. Taper off at least.

Support and prayer greatly appreciated!

Peace,

Lamdage

What does being bright have to do with this?

If I'm correct, he is saying that Lithium and/or Zyprexa is causing cognitive dulling but his doctor/s don't believe him, and he thinks this is because they don't know how smart he would otherwise be. Essentially, they have nothing with which to compare it.

I have a similar problem: I know my brain is still ruined from depression but doctors don't believe me because they don't know how I would otherwise be. They don't know my real baseline.

Lamdage: what is your blood level on 1200mg Lithium? You may be able to get away with a lower dose, which would reduce the cognitive side effects. Cognitive dulling on Lithium is greatly dose-related. As I understand it, people with bipolar disorder often reach the lower end of the therapeutic range on 900mg. If combining Lithium with another mood stabilizer you may be able to lower it even further.

Zyprexa has a higher weight burden than Lithium. Swapping it for a less weight burdensome anti-psychotic and lowering your Lithium dose may do the trick. If you have more of a problem with depression than mania you could perhaps swap Lithium for Lamictal, which is weight-neutral for most people.

I found a great table comparing the weight burden profiles of various anti-depressants, mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics:
https://www.cmellc.com/CMEActivities/tabid/54/ctl/ActivityController/mid/545/activityid/2205/Default.aspx

Hope this helps!
