Celexa to Zoloft for obsessiveness??

Posted by porkpiehat on February 15, 2012, at 12:17:47

Hi All! I'd love some feedback on my newest medication obsession...

I've been taking Celexa for 10 years, along with Lamictal and more recently either buspar or klonopin. Celexa has always made me a little disinhibited (some would say hypomanic but I've heard this complaint from way too many people to think it's just me) and desensitized...not as bad as Prozac, mind you.

But I've been SO obsessive since I've been taking medication about How I feel and should I change or add something and "is this a me feeling or a medication feeling?" that it's never more than a thought away and it's driving me crazy.

Recently I've heard from people that they preferred Zoloft to Celexa; that it made them less manic and spendy and helped out more with the obsessive thoughts. I'm being treated now for PTSD/depression/social/general anxiety and distraction/attention problems. I was relatively obsessive before the pills also.

I feel like I'm so far down the rabbit hole of rumination already. I have this hope that Zoloft will address this one thing (obsessiveness) that may even be at the root of my symptoms, but I fear that changing and monitoring ONE MORE THING will drive me batty.

I've always assumed that Zoloft is more like Prozac than Celexa and I didn't like the numbing feeling of Prozac. Right now I only take 20-25 mgs of Celexa b.c the full dose is too disinhibiting and numbing.

Has anyone made this switch? Can you quell the obsessive thinking without lobotomizing yourself? I know that a little stimulant helps with it but it also makes me fiendish and then sketchy the next day. My pdoc even made a "Valley of the Dolls" referrence about adding adderal so that's off the table?

thoughts please? 60 percent of my brain power is wasted on this and I'm sure it's helped to ruin quite a few relationships.

Many thanks!!!

celexa to zoloft , easy straight taper, the most used of ssri,s. I would say one of these two are the best, so if celexa dont do it for you, then try zoloft

Have you tried therapy? DBT and CBT are very helpful with this sort of problem.

Its some times hard to find a good fit. If you feel you're too obsessive on the Celexa, than try the Zoloft. You have 4-8 weeks to figure out if the medicine is working for you.

Rumination is a beast that sometimes does not respond to medication. Therapy might help you more in this area.

Try Lyrica. It has a lot of properties that help to treat OCD.

Hmmm. I've been in therapy for years. DBT for the past year or so. If anything therapy makes me fixate and obsess over my situation even more.

Part of it I think is that I've lived in so many different states of being because of trying different medications it's hard to know what's "right". It's like having an old-school equalizer with just too many knobs and settings on it.

I've always assumed Lyrica is like a SNRI/Effexor/ Cymbalta kind of drug. NE drugs have always increased sadness and anger in me. Specifically desipramine, Welbutrin, and Serzone.
