Remeron anyone?

Posted by remeron on January 17, 2012, at 16:27:09

Hi everyone
I have just been perscribed Remeron Soltab 30mg/day. Can I swallow the tablet whole or does it have to disintergrated on tongue?

I hope it can be swallowed whole because Id rather do that so I know Im getting the full dose.
Also Im on 200mg Trazadone and 350mg seroquel.
I am also trying to get over 100mg Prozac induced insomnia. While on Prozac100mg I was on Trazadone200 and 6mg Invega BUT could not sleep so we swithched Invega for seroquel 350mg. That did get me 8 hrs of sleep at night but I had soo many crazy dreams I woke up every 30mins. My anxiety, depression, and social phobia felt just as bad as if i were on no meds. So after a bit of research I figured I should give remeron a try. Ive been on all the ssri's and moai's with some success. I found Parnate very good for depression but Insomnia/sweating was too much unfortunately. Yesterday I started my new combo remeron/seroquel/Trazadon and I cant tell a difference yet from the remeron. I know insomnia affects alot of us so this is an interesting combo which I'd like to share my experience with. Any comments on remeron would be greatly appreciated especially if I can swallow the SolTabs, I realy hope it works. Thankyou

Remeron can make you a little drowsy. Another nifty effect is vivid dreams with sleep paralysis. Other than that, Remeron can be a powerful agent. I also like it because it doesn't effect sexual function.

I never had this happen before, but a couple of nights ago, I kept waking up over and over again feeling like I was paralyzed and couldn't breathe. Very scary feeling. By the third time, some rational, semi-awake part of my brain reminded me that I wasn't suffocating, but was just dreaming. I worried this was sleep apnea, but it didn't happen again. Just that one night.

I don't know what a SolTab is, but when I took Remeron I swallowed it whole. I was in hospital so the nurses would have said if I was doing it incorrectly. Does Remeron come in more than one preparation? If so, you can definitely get one that can be swallowed whole if the SolTabs can't.

Everyone goes on about how Remeron makes you drowsy and I guess it may at first, but I actually found it very activating. I had a HUGE amount of (good!) energy during the daytime and my sleeping problems abated. I think it's from the neurotonin kicking in more at higher doses? Anyway, your mileage may vary.

Classic sleep paralysis with a nightmare component! I got them when I first started Remeron.

That's really interesting. I had the same problem but I associated it with the seroquel I was taking at the same time, since I was only taking the seroquel for sleep.

Discontinuing an MAOI too abruptly can produce sleep paralysis. I did not find it to be an enjoyable experience. It is like a waking dream that you are frozen in, and you can't make yourself wake up.

Meant to say norepinephrine, not neurotonin.

I get parasomnias like that quite a bit, and while I agree they are usually unpleasant, the experience can be interesting. Recently I was able to open my eyes while still dreaming, and saw my room (blurrily) through the dream. BTW, I am not on Remeron or MAOIs at present.

When I was on Remeron I found it an excellent sleep aid but a bit too long-lasting - "overhang" the next morning. But I seem to have the same problem with all sedatives, so it may be due to impaired liver function or just personal idiosyncrasy.
