I just payed $50 for 30 caps of fluoxetine 10mg. I got it at a Canadian Wallmart. How is this possible?
I want to know what is going on. How is it that a 25 year old generic drug at the lowest dose possible cost me $50 for one month.

Was it the prozac brand? At drugstore.com 30 caps of Prozac are $213.99!!! 30 Caps of generic fluoxetine: $14.99.

That's ridiculous. At Walgreen's here (Portland OR vicinity) it's $12.00 for a 90-day supply once you pay $5.00/year for their drug card.
WalMART charges only $10 for 90-days.....why would Canada's be that much different.....?
No way you should be paying that much.

Yeah, I don't know why but generic fluoxetine is quite expensive for me here in Ottawa too. It doesn't really affect me all that much since I'm on the Trillium program. I don't pay more than 4% of my income on meds. Since my meds already cost more than 4% of my income, them costing more doesn't really affect me.
As a result I don't really look at how much my meds cost each time, but last time I checked generic fluoxetine was quite expensive.

Thats what I said. It was generic APO-fluoxetine. $50 for 10mg x 30! I was outraged. You hear of it being available for much less than this in other areas.
I actually think its unethical! Generic fluoxetine should be the one that everybody can afford! Its been around forever!
I emailed wallmart and they gave me bla bla...higher volumes in the U.S. bla bla.

Still, you're getting 20mg (double the dose) for half the price!

A little off topic, but I just refilled my scrip for generic parnate (in the US). The pharmacy generates an estimate of what I saved because of insurance. They said I saved $138 for 90-10mg pills. My co-pay was $10. So the price of parnate, which has been around forever is $148? Hard to believe.

If a drug doesnt seel many units, then the cost is going to be high, no matter how old it is (eg Parnate)
I'd say that 10mg fluoxetine is a sklow mover, which might explain the high price. Fluoxetine isnt popular in it self, and the 10mg dose is half the normal one, so the 10mg pills would be a very slow moving line. It might be cheaper to get 20mg pills and cut them in half in future?
This is the end of the thread.
