Getting back to sleep after waking early

Posted by pedr on September 2, 2011, at 16:44:09

Hi,
I am taking Nardil+Abilify and am waking up from sleep earlier and earlier. It's reached 3a.m. now and I'm slowly going insane (perhaps literally) from the erratic sleep patterns. I take 1 ambien (I think 5mg) before bed, say 10pm and that helps me drop off. However if I take 2 pills, I am guaranteed to have the most vivid, terrifying nightmares so I tend not to want to have 2 pills.

So when I awake at 3 or 4a.m. should I take another pill? I suspect that I'll feel like a zombie-with-a-hangover if I do that the following day though.

Any advice appreciated. BTW benzo-based sleep aids, Melatonin and Trazodone aren't effective for me. The Abilify laughs right in their faces 8o}

thanks,
Pedr

Do you take your abilify in the morning?

I'll share my own advice from my pdoc. I, too, have been struggling with early awakenings.

One strategy was to take an ambien upon retiring if needed. Then to take one upon at early wake up. Since it seems to wear off so quickly for me, I did not feel drugged like I did with Lunesta.

There is also sonata which I took for early awakening. It pooped. I'd be awake and 'happy'.

Right now I am using tenazepam, but it really works no better for me than the 2x nightly ambien.....

I wonder what others' experiences are.

Good luck.

Try taking the abifily in the morning, and a sleeping pill at bedtime (say Ambien 10mg or temazepam 15-30mg)

You could also try Sonata, 1 tab when you wake during the night...... this is very short acting, you you could take one at 3am or 4am, and still get up and function normaly at 7 or so.

sorry about the bizarre subject change: my LastPass FF plugin for some reason stashed and form-filled that particular subject! please ignore.

I don't think those are benzo's, are they?

Not that I think one should lightly start a benzo....

ahhhh I see what is afoot. I intended "Benzo-based sleep aids and Trazodone and Melatonin are not effective" but you guys read it as "the benzo-based sleep aids Trazodone and Melatonin...".
So the up-shot is: no, benzo's don't do it for me. Thanks though!
