Anyone ever had any luck with moclobemide/Manerix?

Posted by jms600 on May 16, 2011, at 16:43:37

After going through a lot of antidepressants, antipsychotics and anxiolytics without a lot of success, I'm now looking at maybe trying an MAOI. I currently have unipolar depression, severe GAD and panic disorder along with some social phobia.

Before I head straight for phenelzine (which my doctor doesn't want to prescribe anyway), I thought about trying moclobemide first. At least with this drug the dietary restrictions aren't as bad.

However, I have heard that it's not that effective. Has anyone had any success with moclobemide - particularly for severe anxiety disorders?

Thanks

For me it helps with anxiety and social phobia (especially when i mix it with abilify) but didn't help with depression.

Is your depression adequately treated at this juncture? What medications are you taking?

I can't say my depression is being that well treated at the moment, although I have been worse. I'm still getting low motivation, low moods, lack of interest in things etc. My GAD and social phobia is quite severe along with some social phobia. I'm currently taking 225mg Effexor, 40mg buspirone and 600mg of lithium.

You know, my illness first presented as depression with social anxiety. The anxiety could be paralyzing. Subsequently, I was diagnosed as having bipolar disorder. Over the years, CBT has helped reduce this anxiety, even though it did nothing for depression.

I would explore raising the doage of Effexor to 300mg before making any major changes.

What about Lamictal?
