what I REALLY think of psychobabble

I've been thinking it over and basically if you post here... you run s huge risk of having your privacy breached...once you post, your posts are out of your control... let me explain. Some of this is common sense, but the other comes from the site's restrictions that it places on us as the user's to control what we post here (i.e delete, modify).

Many forum sites allow you to go back and remove a post later if you reconsider what you posted and feel it to be unflattering or not what you wanted to really say... for example "health boards" allows this. As a poster, you should have the right to remove a posting. the site can keep copies if they want but a truly robust forum provides this option... especially with something as sensitive as mental health. In addition, you can change your ID on other sites easily it will override your existing posts with the new ID. I have a huge beef with the ID issue. Most people know not to post with an ID that could identify us... but perhaps not a depressed 18 or 19 year old who uses the same ID for everything... those posts go out into Google's search index for everyone to see.... forever. Family and friends could google this person and see these posts because Dr. Bob has this site google indexed. How sad.

To me, all of this is akin to leaving someone's medical record wide open FOREVER, and hence makes this site the pinnacle of poor ethical decision making by Dr Bob as the moderator because the posters no longer have control over the content once they click that "post" button, they can't remove information at will. The rules for use state that its too bad basically. That's not good enough in my opinion. Posters should continue to have control over their identities and what they post.

I am going to stop using this site in the interest of protecting my privacy and use other sites instead that have more robust features and give ME control as the user to delete posts and change my ID as needed. I encourage all of you to look at the rules again, google your user ID(and see all of your dirty laundry aired), find some alternative forums for support, and think twice before hitting that "submit your post" button here. There's no valid excuse that can be provided to justify this!

The minute u sign on to the internet you have your privacy at risk.

Not to sound harsh, but so what, unless someone has a reason not to,i never had my depression info betrayed to a social site yet.

I for one love this group, the moderation is great, its a big family, and i took a turn in my thinking the support is outstanding, and i always recomend this place to people i run into in need of help.

What we need is dr bob to get off his but and renew it,

I wanna see better colors lol, lets get some random professionals involved.

Lets get dr bob to jump in some posts like he used to.

Dr bob if ur just run down and tired of this site u should pass it on to a collegue, this site holds so much more potential.

Lets add once a week or so a profession to have a q&a

Lets get a file section so we can upload these documents we always refere to when we find them, say we find a good article, lets have a file section where its uploaded, reviewed accepted and now in a database so a reader who just joined doesent miss out on good info cause he missed a post where the link was given.

Lets have a user rating section on current meds.

I mean theres so so much, thats why i use other sites in vivo with this,id like this site to offer it all,it needs to be run by a few professionals who can meet and discuss what to do here to make it better.

You have the most important factor, the people, lets make this site new and improved we deserve it.

What sites do you like?

I wince when my own thread comes up during a Google search. But, again, I really like the folks here. It *feels* more intimate, absurd as that may be, than the maybe three other sites I've looked at.

If you choose an ID that can't be tied to you, then you should be safe. But I agree it would be nice to be able to change IDs, especially since paranoia is part of some mental illnesses. Any feature that would create peace of mind would be welcome in this context.

Agree with the ID username. Some other sites don't notify you of new answers to a thread you are on that's why I also like babble. Phillipa

Privacy and private medical records are a thing of the past. Ever applied for medical insurance? They know everything. Everything. Uncle Sam is pretty well informed too. My buddy applied for a SENTRI pass to use the fast lane at the border crossing in Tijuana. He went for an interview and they knew why he got kicked out of high school once in 1980. I stopped caring long ago. Your entire online history can be brought up pretty easily. Time changes what people expect their privacy to be. For much of history people did not have the concept of privacy. Just one of the facets of all this great technology.

In order to track a posting back to a human, someone would have to have access to the web server logs directly, as well as records at the ISP of who had that address at the time of the post.
That pretty much limits it to law enforcement types with warrants I think.
Unless youre involved in some serious legal stuff I honestly wouldnt worry about it.
