what I REALLY think of psychobabble

I've been thinking it over and basically if you post here... you run s huge risk of having your privacy breached...once you post, your posts are out of your control... let me explain. Some of this is common sense, but the other comes from the site's restrictions that it places on us as the user's to control what we post here (i.e delete, modify).

Many forum sites allow you to go back and remove a post later if you reconsider what you posted and feel it to be unflattering or not what you wanted to really say... for example "health boards" allows this. As a poster, you should have the right to remove a posting. the site can keep copies if they want but a truly robust forum provides this option... especially with something as sensitive as mental health. In addition, you can change your ID on other sites easily it will override your existing posts with the new ID. I have a huge beef with the ID issue. Most people know not to post with an ID that could identify us... but perhaps not a depressed 18 or 19 year old who uses the same ID for everything... those posts go out into Google's search index for everyone to see.... forever. Family and friends could google this person and see these posts because Dr. Bob has this site google indexed. How sad.

To me, all of this is akin to leaving someone's medical record wide open FOREVER, and hence makes this site the pinnacle of poor ethical decision making by Dr Bob as the moderator because the posters no longer have control over the content once they click that "post" button, they can't remove information at will. The rules for use state that its too bad basically. That's not good enough in my opinion. Posters should continue to have control over their identities and what they post.

I am going to stop using this site in the interest of protecting my privacy and use other sites instead that have more robust features and give ME control as the user to delete posts and change my ID as needed. I encourage all of you to look at the rules again, google your user ID(and see all of your dirty laundry aired), find some alternative forums for support, and think twice before hitting that "submit your post" button here. There's no valid excuse that can be provided to justify this!
