Prozac Withdrawal

Posted by Boochin on February 18, 2011, at 16:08:47

How long does this take. It's been a couple of months. I am taking lorazepam 3 times a day or I'd never make it. If I don't take it right on time I fall into the depths of depression that I've never experienced before. The other day I felt so good and decided to miss a dose, believing I had made it through the worst part. OMG big mistake. Immediately i took the missed dose but it didn't do much good.
The three doses have to be spread out evenly through the day for best results.
Was on effexor for a few years was only able to withdraw using prozac. Now using lorazapam or withdraw off of prozac. My concern is the prozac is out of my system after two months so what in the heck is going on. Is there a test to determine if I have some kind of permanent damage?
I am becoming concerned.

Did you feel fine on the prozac? If so why go off it. Hard to find a med that works. You are lucky if that is the case. Phillipa ps and welcome to babble!!!!

Sounds like you are having withdrawl from the lorazepam. You can use clonazepam to get off the lorazepam :)

No but seriously, maybe there are some nutritional approaches you can use to boost gaba levels? These might be out of what from the AD's.

You could try some magnesium.

Thanks, but i only used it to get off of Effexor which i did not really need at the time but allowed someone to talk me into taking it. I was going through a hard time, had a reason to be whatever i was at the time. Never needed it before and really don't need or want it now. However something has changed and it's awful.

Well, you could start with 50-100mg. What exactly are your symptoms when you try and reduce the lorazepam?

How small are the lorazepam pills? 0.5mg?

I feel really good today but i spaced the med's out perfectly.

Yikes i purchased 400mg magnesium tonight and took one.
Searched online magnesium is good for all kinds of things, tinnitus included which i have.
Thanks so much for your help, I'll see what happens tomorrow, perhaps this is just the thing i need.

taurine might also be worth a try. I has clinical evidence in use for alcohol withdrawl. It interacts with the gaba-a receptor like alcohol and benzodiazapines.

Well your suggestion so far was a brilliant idea.
This is only the second day taking the magnesium
and already I feel a difference. The buzz rate of my tinnitus has slowed and is much quieter today.
No leg cramps at all (not sure if that's a result, but it's nice). I feel much calmer and plan on continuing for a few days and then attempt to reduce the lorazepam to see what happens. Just by the way I feel i do believe the magnesium has made a big difference. Kind of shocked at how fast but hey I'm not complaining at all. I'll keep your other suggestion in mind. right now however it's all really good. Thank you very much.
