An antidepressant with effects like adderall?

Posted by Cydnie on November 10, 2010, at 18:17:03

I've been having a horrible time trying to find an antidepressant, tried ssris, snris, tcas, lamictal, wellbutrin through the years and nothing has come close to the antidepressant effect I feel from taking adderall. Of course when that wears off, you need to take more, or you're back where you were. With an SSRI, it stays in your system longer. So I've been wondering if there is anything remotely similar to what adderall does, but in a long acting form, like an SSRI? Does anyone have any suggestions? I almost ordered some things abroad (stablon, valdoxan) to try something new, but thought maybe there still is something someone on the board may have used with their doc that my doc hasn't thought of yet? I'm so sick of feeling this way (I know I'm not alone, I know. Just feel alone in this.) I feel so hopeless sometimes to be resigned to being miserable?

The MAOI Parnate has some of the same effects as a stimulant. Have you ever tried an MAOI?

I thought you were doing much better on Remeron?

I think Wellbutrin may be the closest to a long acting Adderall. Strattera may be another good long acting alternative. The combination of Wellbutrin with Effexor, Cymbalta, or an SSRI might be a potent treatment. Maybe a better option, one that many p babblers believe in, would be combining an SSRI (or an SNRI like Cymbalta or Effexor) with a TCA like Nortriptyline.

Hope you're doing o.k.

Morgan

Thanks both of your for responding. My pdoc went away,so I didn't know what to do, but after reading so much online about stablon, and talking to a doctor in NY who actually prescribes it and says his patients love it, I ordered it. Couldn't find anyone in my state that prescribes it and have no clue how that doc can prescribe it since it's not approved, but another psychiatrist talking with my husband was saying it sounds like the most amazing medication, so that was enough for me. Thought I would give it a try since I've tried so many other things unsuccessfully! Will let you know if I have any success (of course we're all different, but will write in with any success!)

What about desipramine or Protriptyline?
