Hi Jeroen,

Do you really need to be on two different antipsychotics at once?

Sertindole's QT-prolongation is dose related, so you could try and find the lowest effective dose. It has a long half-life, so it may take some time to figure that out.

SSRI's can also dose-dependently prolong QT-interval, although it's more rare.

I don't know about the Abilify - doesn't it leave the QT-interval alone? Otherwise this doesn't seem to be a risky combination to me. Throwing in a TCA or another med that significantly prolongs QT-interval, that would be risky. I wouldn't take more than 20mg of Seroxat just to be sure. Certainly not more than 40.

Practically no medication is totally safe. You could have an EKG to rule out trouble - couldn't you?

Most welcome. Good EKG, that's great. Wouldn't worry about it then.

On the bright side, sertindole tends to be relatively well tolerated apart from the risk of QT prolongation.

However... sertindole does interact with Seroxat. Seroxat increases the blood levels of sertindole and may increase the risk of toxicity.

Whoa, that's vital information. Can't believed I missed that. I have this list of metabolic interactions, but sertindole's not on it. I tried to get it prescribed once, but my f-doc wasn't in for it.

Hi there,

Sertindole is completely missing from most lists of drug interactions because it is a rarely used drug.

Paroxetine (Seroxat) has many metabolic interactions due to inhibition of certain liver enzymes.
