Bah, my doctor is still claiming not to have heard anything yet. Cant wait to get a UK prescription as it will save me a lot each month.

People taking it in my google group have found it to be adequate for depression and anxiety with minimal side effects.

Anyone here tried it? I'll be back on the AD wagon soon enough I think and this sounds promising. No more SSRI's for me anyway. wanna try something like this or an MAOI.

I've been on it 7 months. Its pretty good, maybe not quite as good as citalopram (for me with anxiety) best thing about it is no side effects.

Does it numb you up(serotonin) or give you nice calm(Gaba)?

Emotions are left intact, sexual function is left intact. It is difficult to compare it to another drug out there as its mechanism of action is totally different.

As I said it has hardly any side effects. Leaves you feeling good but not too good. Which I suppose is better in the long run.

never liked that. Controlled emotions. It makes life boring in the long run. however this dosn't sound too bad.

SSRi's have completely stripped me of my personality even after being off them for a year. Will never go on them again.

SSRI sucks big time!

Only thing that worries me about agomelatine is the risk of increased asat/alat forcing patients to get off the medication.

Has anyone had great success on this medication? It's one I've been looking forward to for a while.

How does it measure up to the ADs currently available?

It's good, humane..... compared to other psych drugs.

The only worry is the liver enzyme thing, which could perhaps be best dealt with by keeping the dose as low as possible, under 25mg/d?

I chewed it once....an acrid more than bitter taste, so the liver thing was not such a surprise.

Mainly it improves sleep quality and has a clarifying effect on mental function. In that sense it feels a little like a smart drug.

Better for me than tianeptine or Parnate.

What is it like for depression? Stimulating? It it like an upper?

No. It is sedative at night, and a little stimulating during the day. I dunno how that works.

I wouldnt really call it a 'sedative' either. The drug works on your melatonin receptors (the system that makes you feel sleepy at night when its dark) so once you take it you feel natually sleepy and wake up feeling rested. Theres no grogginess that you get with sleeping aids and tranqs.
In the day time you feel fully alert with no concentration or memory problems.

The antidepressant effect isnt as powerful as SSRI's (if youre a responder) so you dont feel overly happy or stimulated. But you do feel more normal and more in control of your emotions. There is also no emotional numbing like with SSRIs and your sex life is left intact.

I think in the long run its better to feel normal rather than overly happy, will result in a more balanced life. I'd say its entirely abnormal to never feel sad or down, that shouldnt be our goal.

Agomelatine definetly gets the thumbs up from me.

It sounds perfect for me. For some reason, I never get sleepy. I'm always tired but I never get sleepy. I would love to try this med. Hope it's out in Denmark.
