Anyone have any comments on my med regime?

Posted by uncouth on May 24, 2009, at 11:33:12

I'm currently on

Geodon 120
*Lamictal 200
*Rilutek 100
*Lithium 450
Clomipramine 150
Memantine 20
Adderall 20
Agomelatine 50
Lunesta 3
*Amantadine 200

* Means My doctor doesn't know about it

And this doesn't count the many, many OTC supplements i'm on for memory, as i'm currently finishing up a round of ECT. I also have tried Lyrica but it seems like a psychotropic drug to me when I take it, so i'm not taking it regularly

Does anyone have any comments on my regime? ANy interactions I don't know about -- ironically one of the reasons I wanted to be on clomipramine is that I think I have obsessive compulsive disorder that is targeted at my depression. It has become a "Hobby" for me, all the research on all the meds and supplements. I'm not sure how to get out of this mess but I'm hoping long term clomipramine at high dose will help.

I think you should let your doc know about everything that you are taking. If you don't trust them enough to bring them into the loop you should get another pdoc. I think it's a mistake to throw all that stuff together, especially with the ECT without some help thinking it through.

I agree with Zana and if you google med checker about the third one down will let you enter your meds and check for side effects and compatibility. Phillipa

It seems like an awful lot of stuff to be taking. I'm not a doctor but it would seem that a "shotgun" approach is going to hit the target you are aiming at but is also going to hit a lot of stuff you are not aiming at.

I would think you would need to see a pretty smart pdoc to tell you which of those are redundant or even harmful to what you are trying to achieve and which are helpful.

Good luck

Can't speak for the mood stabilizer stuff, otherwise i don't see any major problems besides loss of clarity - i.e how each part affects the whole.

Others will be able to speak with more authority though.

It's a lot of meds to be taking at one time. I would come clean with your psychiatrist. If you can't at least ask a phamacist about any potential risks. You are taking lithium without your doctor's knowledge so I imagine that you are not getting your levels checked. That's dangerous. I wish you well.

I can't even get the simplest combos of psych drugs to work, and I'm thinking of things like Hydergine and agomelatine in low doses.....easy relatively benign drugs.

No one is going to know what that combo is doing for you.

If I felt as bad as you do, I'd rather just feel completely frightful by slowly withdrawing from everything and find some kind of baseline.

Hi.

If you are feeling substantially better, then perhaps it is time to begin to prune down your regime by testing each drug one at a time for the role it plays in producing your improvement. If you are not substantially improved, then I think you have to evaluate your method of choosing drugs.

With all respect, whether or not that's too many drugs is not something I can say.

But I've never been a fan of taking meds behind my doctor's back. If you've got a good psychologist, you should be able to trust him/her and not be creating drug cocktails of your own. Mine's known for being very cautious about monitoring meds at the same time being willing to experiment with many drug combinations. The price for that? An occasional blood test for safety purposes.

Does your doctor require blood tests? If so, I can't imagine the test not picking up some of the additional meds you've thrown in, especially the Lithium

Whether you want to come clean with you doctor or simply stop taking unprescribed meds is up to you, but my recommendation would be to simply stop the unauthorized meds. I think coming clean with your doctor might have some very negative effects on his/her willingness to prescribe potentially abusable medications in the future.

Good luck.

ok im simplifying. no need for amantadine and deprenyl. i feel like sh*t already and just piling more stuff on isn't going to make me feel better. i need to rethink the whole situation.

If you're able to get all these meds on your own, why don't you try the simple Super combo mentioned above: Neurontin + Percodan + Ritalin

Or ask you're doctor if you could try that.

I'd bet you do a lot better than on the mess of drugs you're currently on.

Addendum to my previous post: If you really want to start afresh, you should probably just get a new psychiatrist.
