Springtime INTENSITY

Posted by linkadge on March 19, 2009, at 10:42:12

Has anybody else noticed that springtime is a little too intense a time. I find that around March something just clicks 'on' for me and I can't shut it off.

Its like, my emotions become more intense, anxieties become more intense, fears become more real etc.

My sleeping patterns also start to go all wonkey around this time of year. Its like the extra sunlight and all is just too much.

Can anyone relate?

When younger I used to feel like that now it doesn't seem to matter. But do you feel better? Love Phillipa

Hi Link.

This happens to me every year at this time, regardless of how I tweek my meds. My body clock goes through an adjustment period to light changes. I can tell you that within the last 2 weeks, I've been taking more naps, more difficult to wake up to go to work, more anxiety at times, and lack of motivation. It was worse before I went on a mood stablizer. Back then, I knew I would feel better after certain plants start to bloom.

I know I'm more tired and get bored easily. Kind of lost my spark. Phillipa

I think I relate to that, at least from what I remember of when anxieties were not controlled, etc. It seemed like the sun was up earlier and hotter etc. Also spring was hay-fever season for me, and I had a lot of allergies. You might perhaps have some allergic reactions going on.

Anyway . . is it all negative for you? I mean, nothing positive about it? If not, I would say your anxiety or ? is not controlled possibly . . .

Same thing happens to me. It's also a time when I am more likely to have hypomania. I think it's the extra daylight for me, but I am not sure.

I have both positive and negative experiences related to Springtime. It's par for the course here in Chicago.

My SAD symptoms wane and I usually am much more active/less anergic physically and more with with it mentally. However, it can sometimes be met with dysphoria and increases in anxiety.

It's interesting to note that many studies report a peak in suicide rates in early Spring (Mar/Apr).

JR Think it has to do with frequent weather changes. One day hot next day cold? Love Phillipa

This is completely off topic, but I noticed you mentioned Chicago. I am looking for a new pdoc as I just moved out here. If you have any recommendations/referrals as to where to go, if you could let me know, I'd be most appreciative!
Thx
