Concerns/questions switching Zoloft to night time.

Posted by Z Brothy on March 24, 2009, at 21:06:40

Hey guys - I've been taking Zoloft for about 4 years now and it's worked well for my OCD/anxiety and I've always taken it in the morning. Yesterday I tried taking the dosage(150) at bedtime to alleviate the fatigue it causes me during the daytime. Well, today in the afternoon I started to feel "down" and still do. So my question is this: when does a dosage peak in my body? like if i took it at midnight last night? is that sort of what i feel, like the dosage is "dropping off"?

Also, I used to take 200mg which worked better for me, but made me too tired and had too much sexual problems. Earlier in the month when i tried to go back up to 200mg i was at it for like a week, maybe a week and a half. When i went back down to 150mg...does that mean i have to let the medication build up to a certain level again for a few months even though I was taking more of it and not less? Thanks

P.S. Is this second thing related to the first?

P.P.S. I noticed the fatigue I get during the day causes me to need a 3 hour nap after getting 9-10 hours of sleep the night before - but it's always been helpful in keeping down my OCD during the day.

Thanks in advance you guys.

I'd think it would last 24 hours. Have you tried splitting the dose? Love Phillipa

I haven't, but my doctor has suggested that as an option.

I also forgot to welcome you to babble as see you're new. Welcome!!!! Splitting the dose could work. No anxiety? Just tired? Love Phillipa

From your description, I don't believe that 150mg of Zoloft is a sufficient dosage to keep you well.

It would seem prudent to take 200mg every day and try switching it to a bedtime dosing. If it were me, I would first try to divide it by taking 100mg morning and evening. If the drug works that well for you, you can take a second drug to alleviate daytime fatigue or sleepiness. Perhaps Provigil or methylphenidate. Methylphenidate might even help mitigate sexual side effects.

You're sort of right. 200mg is the initial dosage that worked the best for me 3-4 years ago. But I had to drop it down to 150 because of the tiredness. We actually did try provigil a ways back, but it just made me antsy, and didn't really seem to provide much in the terms of energy. I suppose if I am taking zoloft at night I could get away with taking 200mg again to help against increased tiredness?

I've been taking tribulus to help with sexual dysfunction and it's worked well.

Thanks. Yeah, no anxiety really, just being tired. In fact, the constant tiredness can kind of make me anxious if that makes sense.

But any thought on the second part of my OP? About the med stabilizing? Thx

Mood stabalizer could work well. Phillipa

Huh? What does a mood stabilizer have to do with building up the zoloft dosage?

Sorry thought you were referring at this point to the anxiety. Sometimes one can help that also. But if 200 worked before I'd try for that and dose twice a day. Phillipa

No worries. I really appreciate your responses with everything, don't get me wrong, but I don't think you understand my question.

What I was asking was this: If I was stabilized on 150mg, then tried to go back up to 200mg(regardless of the reason), and then after a week went back down to 150mg - would I have to wait for the 150mg dosage to build and regulate in my system? I know that would be the case with increasing the dosage, but is it the same with decreasing considering that 150mg was already there?

Hope this makes sense, thanks.
