Sid,

Seroquel will definately help calm down brain chatter. I took it for a while last year at a low dose and it helped with anxieties. Started having problems when doctor kept trying to raise dosage up to 400 mgs. (Switched doctors)

Am thinking about trying is again along with zoloft. I have GAd and PTSD. Am hoping this combo will help.

Seroquel, being not saracastic, it does calm the mind, suppresses chemicals out of order that cause "over-heating".

It's more just for throughts, and sleep. Benzodiapines are also helpful, and that needs to be known, but they just cause "a feeling of ease". That's why, there controlled.

Clonazepam actually is worse than Seroquel, i dont know why, but it makes life incredibly depressing, from my view.

Seroquel blocks dopamine and serotonin at sites, which cause equlibrium, in some people for a while. Others, Lithium (which has been around since the elements of the earth where here) has good effects, on mood disorders. Only problem, you have to get a blood test, monthly, and ugh...yuk!

Seroquel 100-200mg is "effective" for sleep, no doubt at all. But it just makes you feel "throazined" out. Which, is unplesant, yet you still get good sleep.

Day time use, it actually can "impair" thinking. And makes you feel "lousy".

Lycria..? have you considered?

take care

I take seroquel for nardil insomnia...I find the nightly dose relaxes me at night and carries on somewhat, in relaxing effect, until early afternoon area of the next day. I dont know about added weight from it...nardil does this on its own.

It didn't do much for my anxiety - however, I only went up to about 200mgs of the stuff. Maybe I should have increased it further but my psychiatrist wasn't keen on the idea of increasing it as I'm not psychotic. I found that it didn't really sedate me either. Again, maybe an increase above 200mg is what's required for me.

Zyprexa did help my anxiety a bit but only at 10mgs and above. Anything below was pretty useless. Again my psychiatrist didn't want to keep me on such a 'high' dose (in his opinion) and so he stopped prescribing it. Weight gain was a hell of a problem for me though with the Zyprexa!! Didn't have any at all with Seroquel.

Good luck!

Seroquel was a lifesaver for my son. However, he is bi-polar 1 and his "episodes" are angry to put it mildly. So in that sense, it does have an excellent calming effect.

As for weight gain, I'd call it neutral. He gained a lot of wieght on abilify and respirdal, its coming off slowly on Seroquel. He takes 300mg day. Completely controls the worst of his bi-polar.

Hope that helps,

~Jade

I take 50mg at night and it does work. For me it works better at the lower dose range. I don't take it all of the time as I become a zombie. Doctor just laughs when I tell him that, he said that it is just doing what it was designed to do. I do find that there is some re-bound anxiety in the evening before taking again. One hour after taking evening dose all is calm again.

Sid,

I called Seroquel "the hammer" because it knocked me out. And that was on 50mgs. I can't even imagine the poor poster who's doc raised it to 400mg. But everyone's different. Some people thrive on it. I used it as a sleeping pill at the time.

Hi Neal,

> My son takes 300mg a day, 100mg is in morn dose along with 500mg Depakate. One morning, I had my vitamins out also and I accidentally took his Seraquel and Depakote. In about 15-20 minutes everything got blurry and I barely made it to the steps. I slept ALL day, like a rock. Felt a slight hangover afterward ;-)

Hi

I gained 40 pounds from Seroquel and I am still trying to lose it. I was underweight before I started Seroquel. Still, it is very good for anxiety.
