I'm wondering why abilify threads are popping up more frequently these days. Is it because I am biased to notice them? (I recently resumed taking 5mg after a 4month hiatis)
Is it because of the new FDA approval and advertisements as an augmenter for SSRI's?
Is it because folks are feeling down on other antipsychotic options?
Is it because of any particular nasty effects on abilify?
Personally, I would like to encourage people to give it a try. I have been on seroquel, geodon, and took zyprexa prn for a while. Abilify is by far my favorite.
I didn't get munchies like seroquel or zyprexa. I didn't get myoclonic jerks, tics, etc like I did on seroquel. I didn't get extreme low bp, and incapacitating fatigue like I did on geodon.
I take it at night. I am sleeping much better in the past 3 days, since I started taking it again. I haven't noticed anything major, in terms of side effects. I HAVE noticed that my busy busy thoughts and hypomanic energy is tamed. Yeah, I kind of miss it, but I was starting to get worried that I would do something irreparably reckless.

Amisulpride is my own personal favourite, Zyprexa a close second. I never got far with Abilify due to harsh side effects at 5mg. People say it feels different at 10-20mg, so maybe I should have given it more time? A friend just switched from risperdal and likes it better.

One week it's Maoi's, next week mood stabalizers, then on to something else topic this week must be atypical antipsychotics. Dont take them. Love Phillipa

Oh sorry worded wrong I see that now. What I meant was that I don't take the meds. Apologies. I think it's really interesting that they are trying it as an ad also. Geez lupsie you're doing so great. Didn't mean to sound like giving medical advise but it sure did sound that way.Wish there were a retract button. My fingers got too busy. My answer as believe it to be true is to always follow what your doc says and from what I've read it seems like a great med. Love Phillipa

Your right I have noticed a lot of threads on abilify lately. Much more than zyprexa.
One thing I would like to add is abilify gave me crazy racing thoughts. I get the opposite from zyprexa. I almost seem normal on zyprexa. Sort of like I don't need meds. But I go off it and all down hill.

I'm on Abilify at 20mg/day. Only serious side effect was significantly increased anxiety. Remeron and Xanax weren't doing the job, so my doctor recommended adding Luvox for its general anxiety effect. Ughh. I can't stand Luvox, but it does reduce the anxiety somewhat and in a different way than Xanax.

Hence, why the chemotherapy (and I think for post operative emesis as well) 5HT3 antagonists work on that region. They're extremely expensive though.
Ginger does have some mild 5HT3 antagonism, at least from some studies.
When one is easing into some SSRIs, 5HT3 agonism may occur as an accidental product of how "clean" the agent may be and the individual, hence nausea in changing doses.
