Zoloft Sexual side effects

Posted by tboybmx on August 5, 2008, at 11:13:52

Hi I'm currently taking Sertraline 25mg (generic zoloft) for just about 2 months for panic disorder. As most men on it cant get started on... well you know.... sex and when I do, I dont last long and rarely reach orgasm....well I was wandering if they prescribe something like cialis or viagra would it help or maybe there's something better ....oh I also take Clonazepam 0.5mg 2x (so actually 1mg) at night.

Thank you

It often helps to augment the Zoloft with Wellbutrin. I am a woman, but the WB has considerably mitigated sexual side effects for me.

I'm not sure how much ED drugs would help, as it's my understanding that you have to have the desire in the first place--they just help you "express" it.

Cyproheptidine fixed that for me (nm)

Geezz...I could write a book now..lol. Sexual side-effects seem to be resolved easier in women then in men on SSRI's. e.g. More women respond to Wellbutrin and other add-on meds then men do.(Got that straight from the doc!)

First, get a panel of tests done, like testosterone and prolactin levels. If testosterone is low, and/or prolactin is high, you need medication for that. Don't 'wait' for anything, because as my being on the SSRI's and antipsychotics for almost 10 years, it's taking forever to get my testosterone anywhere close to 'normal'.

Best,
Jay

take 30 mg of remeron(mirtazapine) and the sexual side effects will go away.

fyi..Something I stumbled across while researching ssri's and testosterone.

btw, I'm waiting for my testosterone results, should be interesting to see if they're low?

Arcticle from internet;

Background: Testosterone replacement therapy is an effective treatment of some depressive symptoms in hypogonadal men, and may be an effective augmentation treatment for SSRI-refractory major depression in such men. Methods: We treated five depressed men who had low testosterone levels and had not responded to an adequate SSRI trial with 400 mg testosterone replacement biweekly for 8 weeks. Four patients underwent single-blind placebo discontinuation. Patients were assessed at baseline and biweekly thereafter using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Endicott Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Scale (Q-LES-Q). Results: Patients' mean age was 40 years, and mean testosterone level 277 ng/dl. All had a rapid and dramatic recovery from major depression following testosterone augmentation: mean 21-item HAM-D decreased from 19.2 to 7.2 by week 2, and to 4.0 by week 8; mean Q-LES-Q increased from 45% to 68%. Three of four subjects who underwent discontinuation of testosterone under single-blind placebo treatment began to relapse. Conclusion: Testosterone replacement therapy may be an effective treatment of depressive symptoms in some men, and warrants further research.

My husband takes 100 mg of Zoloft for PTSD. He has no problem with erection, but cannot reach orgasm. If he skips the meds, even for one day, he is impossible to get along with. He doesn't want to change meds because the Zoloft is working well for the PTSD. He asked his doc about this once, and got an incredibly unprofessional response, so he doesn't want to bring it up again. He has given up on sex. Does anyone know what I could say or do to inspire him to initiate change? Remember, he has PTSD, and you sure don't want to anger him.
