I took Nardil years ago, and pretty much a miracle for social phobia (that was the "old" Nardil) - I quit because of the anti-sexual side effects. I am considering again because my depression has gone on far too long, anxiety off the charts, - I take 1mg Clonazepam a day. Question - I have a couple of bottles, but they are outdated - 01/10/07, and 08/01/07 - what do you think? They smell funky & maybe they did when I got them. I could probably get fresh, but Nardil is not that inexpensive. I also have an unopened, in date box of Emsam 6mg, if anyone might want who has trouble paying (no charge), it didn't work for me. The first thing you need to know is how Nardil ages, and I don't have the answer. I don't think it decomposes into another drug over time, but I'd want to make sure.
Of course the *best* thing to do is to throw it away and get a new prescription. But I have to admit, I'd be tempted to use it to titrate up.

bb, thanx - I am thinking I should play it safe - whatever negative side effects I get I would probably wonder if if had something to do with it being old - thank you for your feedback

I have 3 unopened bottles of Nardil 15mgs - 60 tablets each, expiring on Feb 2009. I quit Nardil about 1 month ago because it didn't work for me and it was making me gain weight like crazy.
I don't know what to do with those bottles and better than let them expire I'd give them away to someone who needs them. But remember.. you will gain weight. If you're willing to sacrifice the extra pounds, go for it.

I think Dr. Bob tries to do the best he can with this site to allow posters wide latitude to be able to help each other. But in some areas, he finds he has to draw boundaries, and exchanging information about sharing medications prescribed for you with others, (which BTW, depending on the specific drug and jurisdiction involved, can be illegal in the U.S.) is one of those areas. He is, after all, a licensed MD and has to observe certain legal and ethical rules. For example, he could conceivably be held partly liable if something bad happened to a poster that received a med from another poster, facilitated by the Psycho-Babble website.
Also, I have never asked him specifically, but I'd imagine the other, more important reason to enforce this guideline is motivated by Dr. Bob's concern for posters' health and safety. He'd rather encourage 100% legal methods of obtaining meds (your own doctor's prescription) and discourage other methods - better safe than sorry, etc.
Hope that makes some sense, and that you can find other ways to support and help fellow posters.

Since I started Nardil about 4 months ago I have lost about 10kg in weight. Doesn't nardil turn into amphetamine like metabolites? Anyway I have to make a real effort to eat. I suppose everybody reacts to medicine differently.
