Struggling in life. Medications.

Posted by your#1fan on February 2, 2008, at 1:39:20

Hi pbabble, or any poster

Im really struggling, this post is just kinda random off my mind. But im just having a hard time in life, i have MANY phobias of things happening. Like PARANOID. I've already asked the doctor? am i really crazy? just in case he went ahead and put me on Zyprexa (for mood stabiliztion and repressing some thoughts) 7.5mg. Ha! but still with out all the psychiatric medication to block out these intruding thoughts, i need to mind map, i have too many maps in my head of life!

Anyways, Xanax is now more of medication when i get upset, it calms down crying spells, and panic when its happening., it does not stop manic, or paranoid feelings. It just brings relief to the nerve, not what the mind is thinking.

Prozac is the most HELPFUL medication "nuerogeneis" is what i call it, i would see life so dull and gloomy off it, because it helps with feeling new feelings because i think, it has grown new nuerons in my head! sometime i think a little too much!

But you know, there are somethings that are going on at home. My parents are to the point where they kinda want me to leave and im getting money, but then I'Ve got to take care of insurance. Health, thats the important! seeing a psychiatrist.

I've been so busy, i dont know what to do!

Im somewhere in the DMV-IV listed as "fan syndrome" ROFL! "a series of bad events will happen" im serious! lose keys, lose my relationships, lose my mind!

Anyways im going to stick around here, because my parents are disowning me now, so WOW i have new people to talk to! at least ill have a board to post on if im somewhere else! and get advice!! from you guys!

You guys are so special...to me. Thanks for all the advice that was given.

But i did have a question about prozac, i feel a warm feeling when i take it. Not like a narcotic, like im back to life and warm with relationships. Without it im dead in the water...

anyways i think i need to hit the bed. Keep me in your thoughts please.

fan

hey fan-- sorry to hear you're going through such a hard time. i definitely understood the feeling that everything is going wrong at once or just the sense of dread that something bad is going to happen.

as for the prozac, i kind of have a similar experience. i've gotten to the point that most drugs-- especially benzos, stimulants, and sleeping pills-- hardly touch me; nothing really makes me feel anything. but then i added prozac two weeks ago, and even right away at a low dose, i could feel it working. for sure it makes me feel more jumpy and maybe feeling something is enough to make me feel better and more alive and hopeful that something can help me. or maybe it is just an amazing drug for some people. in any case, maybe it's not so important why prozac makes you feel much better and long as it DOES. it's improving your functioning so it's a keeper.

can you decrease or get rid of other meds since prozac is working so well?

keeping you in my thoughts,
CB

Fan,

I have read your posts a lot and haven't posted much. I can't remember you having much therapy?

I just wondered about where therapy fell in your
program?

I'm not sure what your question is -- you say you have a question about Prozac, but you don't actually ask anything specific, that I can see? If you're asking about the "warm feeling" you get when you take it, I'd have to say that's probably psychological -- not physical. Prozac stays in your body a long time, so your blood levels would be pretty constant on it in a very short time. In fact, the last time I took it, I was taking one pill every other day for a constant level. If you're feeling something at the time you take it, or in a short time afterwards, that's not likely to be the Prozac.

As for neurogenesis, that's probably not at the root of what you're describing, either. You're describing life when you talk about new experiences and new sensations -- not the growth of new nerve cells.

How are you doing on finding a therapist? And have you considered -- strongly considered, as in started looking -- getting a second opinion from another psychiatrist? You've said that your current psychiatrist graduated from medical school in 1955 or so, as I recall, which would make him rather elderly. While there's a lot of good that comes from experience, it hasn't sounded from your posts as though you were on the most effective treatment plan.

Good luck.
