So are you saying since I'm a science nerd that benzos and the ad's that are supposed to stop anxiety are making us prone to cancer or do I have it mixed up? Phillipa

I don't believe the AD's touch GABA, but benzos certainly do.

Yes, that would explain why benzos are harmful in the long run

Little confused, lol,my understanding is gaba with the many ways it works is still a nueroprotective chemical. From the article i believe its stating gaba is good, however if supplemented or excessed is then counter productive?

Perhaps when you post a article like that, mayb you can throw in a brief laymons meaning of it,this of course is just a request as i read lots of documents that are not clear to me.

Not too sure myself. I would just imagine that stem cell proliferation requres a delicate ballance of inhibitory and excitory neurotransmitters. I guess being drunk all day might slow down neuronal repairation?

I tend to agree with what you are saying. The detrimental effects are likely due to excessive gabaergic neurotransmission (?)

stress alone will mess up GABA quite more than any benzo could ever do...

what I have seen is that some old people with sleep problems can really benefit from a short acting benzo like oxazepam. I was told by an older madame that she sleeps very good and she feels comfortable relaxed in the next morning. There was no negative influence of cognition detectable for me. I could hypothesize that a benzo can prolong somebodies lifespan because of the disordered sleep of old people.

for some people similar agents can have protecting properties in some neuronal disorders protecting excessive firing of glutamate neurons.

Interesting. What is the half life of oxepam? Actually, I remember getting it in the hospital and remembering it was a pretty good sleep.

t 1/2 = 8 st. , steady state 2d
it is not metabolized in long acting metabolites so not big accumulation in more fatty, less fluid tissue.
