what I have seen is that some old people with sleep problems can really benefit from a short acting benzo like oxazepam. I was told by an older madame that she sleeps very good and she feels comfortable relaxed in the next morning. There was no negative influence of cognition detectable for me. I could hypothesize that a benzo can prolong somebodies lifespan because of the disordered sleep of old people.

for some people similar agents can have protecting properties in some neuronal disorders protecting excessive firing of glutamate neurons.
