Ace, Nardil man back....greetings my friends!

Posted by ace on July 29, 2007, at 23:50:55

Been very busy with study and whatnot, but been meaning to post for some time....

Nardil is still going very very well. At 90mg at the moment. The years are adding up since I started this great drug!

Still having some derealization/phobicc anxiety probs and OCD

Thinking of trying a mood stabilizer for these both, or stepping up to risperidone...

Unfortunately, Geodon is still not in Australia....

But thing could be so much worse...Obviously I am always looking for a better drug to cut 'harder' through the remaining sx's......but I am so lucky i found Nardil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any questions/comments please go ahead!!

Ace,

Nardil- 90
Xanax 1
Seroquel 25

Hi Ace glad you're still doing well. I was running out of Nardil at the weekend so had to drop my dose from 75mg to 30mg to make them last. I'll tell you I noticed the depression and anxiety returning. So the idea of dropping the dose after a while as proposed by a Dr isn't a good idea for me. You're still on 90 so presumably you haven't dropped your dose. I think the Dr overlooked the GABA effect of Nardil.

One thing I've tried a couple of times is adding Nortriptyline. I'm not convinced it does anything though. My problems are still some phobic avoidance (perhaps a habit I need to force myself to break), weight gain (large stomach) and zero sex

All the best
Fred

Hey Ace! Good to see you.

Fred, every time I lower Nardil for whatever reason, I feel depression coming back right away, too. I wonder though, does it eventually pass in some cases, do you think? Is it maybe a withdrawal thing versus a need for that much Nardil to kick the depression thing?

Yes I think I might try splitting pills and going down by half a pill a week to see if I can find an optimum dose without causing withdrawal

> Hi Ace glad you're still doing well.

Thanks mate!

I was running out of Nardil at the weekend so had to drop my dose from 75mg to 30mg to make them last. I'll tell you I noticed the depression and anxiety returning.

This has happened to me. It seems I can't go below 60mg- If I do symptoms return real quick. Although i was on 45mg for a while when I was staying with my family- and everything seemed cool. Maybe being around my family (and eating well for once, living properly!) negated the relapse???

So the idea of dropping the dose after a while as proposed by a Dr isn't a good idea for me.

I havent seen any evidence that lowering Nardil after experience success at a particular dose sustains efficacy...proceed with caution!!

You're still on 90 so presumably you haven't dropped your dose.
After coming back to Sydney (was with my folks for some time) It didn't take long for the dready fear and depression to come back- so i wacked it up to 90mg...within 24 hours I noticed a difference!

I think the Dr overlooked the GABA effect of Nardil.

Actually most have no idea about Nardil's affinity for GABA!

>

Tried it too- actually think this TCA made my anxiety worse...not sure...but no TCA has helped me when used in combo with Nardil....

I'm not convinced it does anything though. My problems are still some phobic avoidance (perhaps a habit I need to force myself to break),

I doubt it is a 'habit'. I wish these illnesses were habits. Tried a benzo?

weight gain (large stomach)

hmmmm....there is antidotes for this....can't remember right now...maybe put out a new thread???

Topomax- I believe that helps? Thankfully (after a few years) my weight gain from nardil went....

and zero sex

Number of agents to try. Once again this took years to alleviate in me. I remember having some girls already for some action...and I couldn't 'come' to the party, he he!

I hope Fred doesn't mind me putting my two cents in here! I think there is a reasonable possibility of this. Everytime the depression hits me when I lower I just can't 'sit it out'...i just find it very painful, so I increase. However, I think if I sitted it out long enough I would probably stabalize at the lower dose. But there is the problem of waiting in pain...

Thanks for your info and cheerful post

> Maybe being around my family (and eating well for once, living properly!) negated the relapse???

It's a funny thing but if I'm not going through a real overwhelmed phase, having my kids to stay works wonders.

> I havent seen any evidence that lowering Nardil after experience success at a particular dose sustains efficacy...proceed with caution!!

I can see the logic. Nardil mops up the excess MAO so after that you only need a little to keep on top of MAO as it's slowly produced. But perhaps this isn't the mechanism of Nardil at all and I think the GABA may be some part of it

so i wacked it up to 90mg...within 24 hours I noticed a difference!

Yes me too: 24 hours

I take Xanax BTW. Have done for years.

I daren't even try.

I believe Bromocryptine can help as can Periactin and Cabergoline.

If I'm having a lot of success with 75 MG, should I move up to 90 in hopes that I'll improve anymore.

Football that's exactly what I'm considering. I'm doing OK on 75 but I reckon you can't have too much happiness. I deserve it! Actually I just feel normal. I'm reluctant to put on any more weight though

Hi Ace,

Just a question: What kind of Nardil is sold in Australia? Is it the new reformulation by Pfizer?

Do you know if you're taking the old Nardil or the new one?

I tried the new one (the reformulation by Pfizer) and it didn't work. Even after going up to 90mgs (which caused me an unbearable pounding headache 30 mins after taking every dose)--so I went down to 60mgs, and have been on it for almost 2 months.

How long for it to show results? Have you had any headaches at 90mgs?

Could you give me more details about your experience, how long you've been on it, and what version you're taking?

Thanks a lot
GI78

Ace, I think I saw an old post where you were going to try nardil with tryptophan. I'm taking parnate and I've tried some small amounts of tryptophan with it but I know there have been some bad reports of combining maois with tryptophan. Did you try it and have any success and what were the doses?
